If we were going to see a movie it would be 'Pirates of the Caribean' #4, so I can find out where the heck the fountain of freakin' youth is! I know, I know, it's just a movie, but isn't it possible to find truth in fiction? And no double feature, I will be catching a flight to the Fountain. Maybe on my way back to SoCal?
muahahahaha!

Do I have to travel to you to see this movie? I mean we both know how that'll go down ;) haha... Hmmm what movie? Hold on let me IMDB what's out... I've not been to a movie in years (yes I really am checking IMDB)... Super 8 followed by X-Men: First Class... Figure if I'm travelling all that way might as well see 2 ;)

If we were going to catch a movie it would be Beetlejuice because it's an awesome movie and really funny. Plus how can you not love that view of the afterlife. :)

We could make it a double feature by watching the movie Splash. This is the movie that added to my Little Mermaid mania as a child. :)

So two very funny movies full of dark humor and mermaid goodness = a great double feature.

Oh I forgot to put why I picked those movies... Ok... X-Men is self explanatory really, the X-Men are AWESOME!! and Super 8? Well I love a mindless horror movie and that looks about as mindless as it gets haha So there you have it :)

OMG, I haven't done a double feature since I was in highschool. Do they still do those? I have no idea, small town living has left me out of the loop. Well, I would drag you to a double feature whether you wanted to go or not. >Insert evil laugh here< That's what friends are for right, to drag around and keep me company and give me sanity away from my crazy kids :) We would go see Thor and then Conan and swoon over the male hottness on the big screen and of course I would pack extra napkins with our popcorn to wipe up all the drool that will come with our oogling and swooning of all that male goodness in which you will remind me that both these manly men are fictional characters and no my husband would not appreciate the invitaion of these two into our home. Then give me a smack because, duh, no home equals no bed. Consoling will ensue and out for some Tequila shots after the movie :)

Ok, never been to a double feature. But if we are going to do a double feature it has to have some hot guys! Ok so first Thor. Even the hubby was impressed with the bare chest! For the second feature, Green Lantern! Ryan Reynolds, YUMMY!!! It's not out yet but will be soon. So it will have to be the plan for June.

If I could see a movie it would be the upcoming Harry Potter. And, yes I would sit through a back to back showing of parts 1 and 2.

If we were going to see a movie it would be "Wonder Woman" What do ya mean there's no Wonder Woman movie? Well, too bad, it's my fantasy and they'll just have to make one to suit me!
And in this movie someone WILL explain how her suit stays on with all her jumping around and no sleeves or even straps! And how she runs so well in those high-heeled boots. And with the long hair flying all around in close combat someone dosent just grab and pull it!

Hmm what else...anything vamp. Duh. Oh I got it! I would watch all the Blade movies. :) Yay!

@van_pham - I agree the Catwoman film with Halle Barry IS horrible, that's why I want a new one. As a character she has so much potential and yet movie writers waste it all with her, trying too hard to make her "sexy" (and failing, I might add). Instead they just make her stupid.

@Goaliefan1973 - Everyone knows the Fountain of Youth was discovered in Florida by Ponce de Leon in 1513. It has since been moved to a secret goverment hidaway and can only be used by the super rich who pay millions for one swallow. And yet the US is still in debt, go figure.

@Ducknme: agree! Did you hear that Anne Hathaway is going to be the NEW CATWOMAN in the next Dark Knight film?! Gah, bad choice in my opinion, i like Anne as an actress, shes funny but I cannot see her in that role. I don't think she can come off as strong & sexy Villain.

@Thuyvu - Serious?! Anne Hathaway? I admire her as an actress, just as I admire Halle Berry but neither one of them is right for that role. I don't know who is, but not them!

@ducknme: I know she LOOKS like an animated character - an animate villain at that. We're looking for "hollywood villain" or "hollywood ugly" like Maryann (Gilligan's Island) not, ugly ugly. Plus, she might be too scary for the younger ones in the audience. Ok, I would have nightmares! LOL ...

Too many plastic surgeries is what happened to her face. She wants to look like a cat. Fails miserably IMO.
I think she gets the mony for her next plastic surgery by suing her previous surgon....

Blogger Van Pham said...

@Ducknme: hahahahaha, yeah her face is totally messed up.

Also I ended up watching The Hangover Part 2 (like the question asked) NOT as funny as number 1 :/.

Are you going to watch the movies you wanted...super 8, xmen?

May 30, 2011 at 12:40 PM
Blogger ducknme said...

@van_pham: I usually don't get the chance to go to movies and end up waiting until they come out on video. Which is okay 'cause the popcorn at home is cheaper and I can put REAL butter on it if I want to.
The movie I really want to see is Thor even though it's a guy movie and there's going to be way more blood than I want. But fantasy-type movies always intrigue me.

May 30, 2011 at 3:32 PM
Blogger Van Pham said...

@ducknme:

That's cool too! Yes, the food at the theater is SUPER expensive. I think a large popcorn and soda where i live is $13.00! Way more than a decent entree at a restaurant haha

I love fantasy-type movies too, Hangover is actually a type of movie I don't watch to often but I really enjoyed the first.

I wanna watch The Green Lantern, the trailer looked reallly good.

May 31, 2011 at 12:42 AM

Boy, oh boy...drop into a coma for a few days and people just start new contests without you! The Home just got a new aide whose age was lower than an interstate speed limit, and I got so excited my pacemaker battery gave out!

I can't stay up late enough to wait out a double feature, so you'll have to settle for just one. I just know there has to be a revival of "My Man Godfrey" around here, somewhere....

May 31, 2011 at 8:48 PM

@ratkin: Ha! I'd never seen "My Man Godfrey", nor heard of it either, so I looked it up on Youtube. That was hilarious! I loved the end. And Corneila deserved her ash pile....

My other choice would be "Duck Soup," but that one always leaves me feeling frustrated. By the end I always want some lemonade. Here at The Home the only thing sour that we ever get is the look on the head nurse's face.

June 1, 2011 at 6:37 AM
Blogger ducknme said...

@ratkin - Duck Soup dosen't fill me up as good as Animal Crackers. Sorry about the lemonade. Maybe the idea of Harpo swimming in it will help stop the cravings.

I also rather like the version of Peter Pan that has Danny Kaye as a blonde Captian Hook, though maybe that one is too new for you. Hmm. Arsnic and Old Lace is a classic.

@ducknme - I beg to differ; I'm not a curmudgeon - I don't even like mud - I'm a cynic. Since you like to toss around seemingly learned quote, I will respond in kind.

"The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it."

And more apropos here at The Home, "A cynic is a man who, when he smells flowers, looks around for a coffin."

@ducknme -Have you noticed that we seem to have turned this into our own private dialogue? Intimidated 'em is my guess.

I apologize for taking so long to respond. It's Enema Day here at The Home, so I've spent most of my time wandering around humming "I Who Have Nothing." Don't worry, though - - I'll eschew "process of elimination" jokes. Why? Alimentary, my dear Watson...because I try to maintain at least the veneer of good manners!

As or thinking for yourself, I don't have any handy quips for that one.

Do you know what the fish said when he swam into the concrete wall? Dam!

@ratkin - I choose to believe our charm, wit and intelligence were more than they could handle.

I hope you had a good enama day, but please spare me the details. We just call Roto-Rooter around here. But in case tou get bored, here are 10 games for old age...
1.)Sag, You're it
2.)Pin the Toupee on the bald guy
3.)20 questions shouted into your good ear
4.)Kick the bucket
5.)Red Rover, Red Rover, the nurse says Bend Over
6.)Doc Goose
7.)Simon says something incoherent
8.)Hide and go pee
9.)Spin the Bottle of Mylanta
10.)Musical recliners

@ducknme - Jeez, you couple a comment on 'charm, wit and intelligence' with a nasty, demeaning bit of (doubtless cut-and-paste) Old Age humor. Did the Good Irony Fairy come and take a dump at your place?

In the future (and yes, I know that yours will be much longer than mine) please remember that I do the Old Folks humor around here. It's just like that comment about your kid sister - you can make fun of her, but nobody else gets to without getting a bloody nose. They even know about that out in the sticks in Utah, right?

@ratkin - Now give me a break. I could be old, or young, or somewhat in between. If I choose to do old age humor, that is my business. Yes, it was cut and paste, someone sent it to me in an email. And while I DO live in Utah, and it is undoubtably the sticks, It is neither where I grew up, nor the only place I've ever lived, so, who says you've cornered the market on age, wisdom, or grumpiness?

@ratkin - Let me explain. A person I cared about very much was murdered Saturday, and I had just found out while in the midst of typing up a reply to you, so I am not now, nor was I then, feeling on top of my game. I won't apologize for snaping at you, old people need it now and then, I will apologize for the blatant cut and paste though.

@ducknme - Everything I've said up until now has been in jest. This isn't: My sincerest condolences on your loss.

@ratkin - ARRGGG! See, now I feel guilty. Tell you what, you go back to being the curmudgeon who dosen't like mud, and I'll go back to laughing at you. Fair enough?

(Thanks for the condolences, I really do appreciate it, and apologize for dumping on you. You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.)

@ducknme - Fair enough, and no apology is necessary. Keep your chin up.

If you were one of the old bats here at The Home it would be "keep your chins up," but you have to work with what's available.

@ratkin - I've been meaning to ask you, since you are so knowledgeble about old black and white movies, I watched one when I was in college about a man who was involved in an insurance fraud scheme, and murder. I think he was working in insurance too. I know it's not Death of a Salesman, but I can't think of the title. Do you know what I am talking about?

@ducknme - How about "Double Indemnity" with Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck and Edward G. Rombinson? It's in black and white, and it's from 1944 which should qualify as 'old' for you youngsters.

That's it! I need a good movie tonight. As soon as the kids are in bed I'll cuddle up with hubby and a cup of coffee and watch it. It IS 67 years old. That's a lot in movie years.

@ducknme - The other day I was watching "The Cocoanuts," the first movie by The Marx Brothers. That one's from 1929, and was one of the early 'talkies.'

"Do you realize that real estate has gone up 1929 since a thousand percent?"

Haha! I love Groucho! One my favorite quotes of his is above my computer.
"Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend, inside a dog it's too dark to read!"

@ducknme - Gotta love Groucho!

Groucho to Margaret Dumont on their alleged future together: "I can see you bending over a hot stove. But I can't see the stove."

President Groucho to a cabinet member: "Go home to your wife. Better yet I'll go home to your wife, and outside of the improvement she'll never know the difference!"

@ducknme - I forgot my favorite non-movie Grouchoism.

TV star Groucho (of "You Bet Your Life") talking about TV in general: "Television is very educational. Every time someone has it on, I go in the other room and read a book."

@ratkin and van-pham - the only other Marx Bros. quote I know by heart, comes from Harpo...

@ducknme and van-pham - the old comedians/comediennes are endlessly quotable. A favorite W.C. Fields moment is when Fields is at a table, playing poker. A woman walks in and exclaims, "Oh look...a game of chance." Fields mutters under his breath, "Not the way I play it, it's not."

@ratkin - when I was a kid we we would drive somewhere every summer and my dad would play these old Edgar Bergan and Charlie McCarthy tapes and I remember one where Edgar, I think, said:
"Show me where Stalin is buried and I'll show you a Communist Plot!"
I thought that was the funniest thing!

@ducknme - I used to have some wonderful old recordings (now gone, unfortunately) of Edgar Bergen/Charlie McCarthy radio shows with W.C. Fields as a guest. They had an infamous 'feud' going at the time.

Sample dialogue:
Fields: Tell me, Charles, is it true that you father was a gateleg table?
'McCarthy': If it is, then your father was under it!

Fields: Quiet, wordwood, or I'll break every knot in your body.

@ducknme - Make that 'wormwood' in the prior quote!

I remember one show where Edgar and Charlie told WC Fields that there was alcohol in munitions and WC Fields said "Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!" Another line I thought was hilarious. I didn't realize at the time it was a song too wich made it even funnier!

@ducknme - I remember a classic Fields radio bit where he was discussing an accident he had recently had. It started, "I was was in my garden in pursuit of flora and fauna - Flora's my maid, you know..."

@ratkin - Mae West was also a favorite of mine. I don't remember the film, but a guy in a saloon, speaking of Mae's character, told another guy, "Five minutes with her and you're lucky to come away with your vaccinations!" And of course her famous quote, "Too much of a good thing is wonderful!"

@ducknme - Mae West was a true original, and she and Fields were magic together in "My Little Chickadee." It's unfortunate, though, that late in her life she became a very bad parody of herself. Check out the excreable "Sextette," (made when she was 85 years old) if you have a strong stomach.

@ratkin - Yeah, I know, poor lady. So afraid of growing old.

Well, the contest is drawing to a close and it has been entertaining and informative chatting with you. I hope to run across you again sometime. And I really hope you don't think any less of me for snaping at you the other day. I do realize it was all in fun, but I was having a bad day and didn't realize how waspish I sounded until I went back and reread what I wrote. I'm not the person that I came across as being.

And you are still one of the funniest people I've ever chatted with. Good luck with your next enama day!
