Diplomatic situation: i was barely 20 living capitol hill Denver, 2 of the Smaldone brothers, colorado small crime family a few know of were facing off at each other with pistols and i just knew what to say to defuse situation and young and stupid i stepped between them both with drawn guns, one a 45 the other a revolver and i do not remember much other then it was one of their apartments in capitol hill denver and i defused it saying that the problem was not with each other, but outside. After i said enough, they put away the guns and shook hands. I will say i didn't have anything to do with them after because it scared me silly, i could have died. but I did do it, and though almost 60 now its something you cant forget.

I have a 16 year old daughter and a 10 year old daughter and dispte the age difference, those two go at it on a regular basis, definately verbally assaulting each other, sometimes boldly directly the verbal assault at me (Let me tell you, that DOES NOT go over well...nope, not at all!!).

January 13, 2012 at 9:40 PM
Anonymous thekrazikat said...

I got another one! And I will think of more, I really want to be a winner!
I practice diplomacy on a pretty regular basis when it comes to my teenager and her clothes, her hair, her friends, her attitude, definately her attitude. I have to remember that no matter what she says or does and no matter how mad I get or how I would act if she WASNT my daughter, she is my daughter, she was once my sweet little baby and will soon be a wonderful woman, and I am here to guide her on that path to adulthood and help her learn how to be a respectful member of society.

I think that every girl has had to whip out the diplomacy at least once when confronted with friends asking, "No really, how does this dress look on me?"

Blogger ducknme said...

@ thekrazikat - We were all 16 once. And we all had that same terrible attitude*. She will outgrow it - if you let her live that long!

*Please note I did not have the bad attitude at 16 that everyone else had/has/will have, I was and am still prefect. Therefore the GoR will smile on ME!

@ducknme - I was also perfect! If anyone says otherwise, they are just telling stories! I swear!

As for my daughter, she is getting there...aside from the attitude all that DIPLOMACY has paid off. She is even graduating from highschool this year...two years early, so I guess my diplomatic methods of parenting have paid off!

Another diplomatic time...when a woman who lied to get promoted as my peer in a job that requires specialized experience and she had ABSOLUTELY NO EXPERIENCE and tried to blame me for her mistakes...it took all the diplomacy I could muster to maintain my professionalism while addressing that issue for 6 months without doing something I would enjoy...but regret.

@thekrazikat - See? And that example right there about maintaining your diplomacy at work is exactly why your beautiful daughter has the dedication, drive and smarts to graduate two years early. That is amazing. On both of your parts.

And Ew, not that kind, get your minds out of the gutter! @Jesse Ivanoff has mad gymnast skills and a shed full of weapons, @ducknme you have extra hold hair spray and a shed full of weapons as well. I have hair spray, brass knuckles, bear spray, assorted other weapons, a kick a** 4 x 4 suv, and evil sneaky tactics. I suggest we band together and take out all the others vying for the ARC's. There are 5 books. We each get one, and then give one to whoever keeps the music playing for us so we have a** kicking music to fight to, and one to the hottest guy who offers to fulfill our every fantasy and gives good foot massages. Are you with me?

Okay I posted a long ol' thing yesterday and it's not here anymore and I am SOOO not typing that whole thing back out since I'm on my phone. So here's a summary:

I came out. My über religious sister in-law told me I was destroying the family. I explained my decisions and how I believe God still loves me even though I like other guys and now we don't have such a strained relationship.

January 14, 2012 at 6:11 PM
Blogger thekrazikat said...

@ Cody Calahan - I love the whole contradictory aspect of certain religious people...what happened to loving everyone and not judging people? Sounds like you were very diplomatic in getting her to chill the freak out! She will get over it and if she doesn't, well, I am practicing diplomacy not saying more about that. You deserve to be who you truly are!

@thekrazikat Thanks for the words. I definitely appreciate the encouragement. I'm definitely in the mindset that whatever higher power there is out there, whether it's God, Allah, Buddha or whatever, their main worry is love. We are taught over and over that the core of almost every religion is love. So how does being gay and loving someone of the same gender entitle them to say it's wrong?

Whatever. Sorry to get all debate worthy on the chat. I just really want one of the ARC giveaways. Lol

@ Cody Calahan: I'm with thekrazikat on this one. Where in the bible or any religious text does it say "Hate homosexuals, black people and everyone different to you"? I'm pretty sure the whole message is love thy neighbor but whatever.

@Jesse Ivanoff: hey, your story jsut reminded me of dealing with my grandfather. That required diplomacy, alright.

I was really pale, and he told me I needed to get more sun because I looked like a vampire (this was actually kind of true - I was in my senior year of high school and wanted to get into a good university and spent all my time with books and computers - but tactful it was not). He told my cousin she had chunky legs, which she could do nothing about of course, and my sister that she needed to lose weight (she was like fourteen, really sensitive, and a normal body weight).
So you had to a) hold onto your temper, and b) comfort whoever else he'd just given 'advice' to.

We quit moving stuff early today, the weather was too crappy. Then we retired to Boston Pizza for some delicious food, mmmmmmm burger!!!!! LOL, then I had to stop at walmart for sidewalk salt (due, of course, to the storm). Side note, I almost ran over two guys fighting in the walmart parking lot. I mean, how much more gangsta can you get then fighting in the walmart parking lot?!?!?! I should have taken a picture for www.peopleofwalmart.com lol!

@Cody Calahan - Speaking as an uber religious person, (who has no idea how to get those little dots above a "u") you have EVERY right in the eyes of God to love who you love. It is our job as the children of God to love our neighbors. Also it is God's place to judge not ours. So your uber religious siter in law is the one that needs to start praying for forgivness of sins, not you!

Thank-you for firmly and lovingly setting her straight so that SHE didn't tear your family apart with her beliefs.

The guys fighting were a little involved at the time to ask for an autograph, or for help. Besides, I don't know if I would trust them with something like the ARC's. @Kelly, Not that it really makes a difference if you comment or anything, seeing as how the ARC's belong to me, @Jesse Ivanoff, @ducknme, and @thekrazikat! They belong to us!!!!!!!!!! And we shall defend them until our last dying breath, and then we will return from the dead in the sequel to defend them some more! And in the Trilogy, our spirits will make you weep bloody tears in terror as we once again defend them! And in the quartet, we will receive new bionic bodies and defend them some more, etc... I'm guessing you get the drift?

@Jesse Ivanoff, you love winter and cold weather, but haven't seen snow? I think you should experience an Alberta winter before you say you love winter. It can get down to -50 degrees celsius here, and yes, I went to school in that weather. I would love warm weather year round! I mean, there's no way to look good on a date when you have to wear a parka. ps: we hit 30-40 degrees in the short summers that we do get. We just have weird weather in Alberta.

@Jesse Ivanoff - No snow? That's horrible! I love snow. In it's proper place. November to Feburary.

@ducknme, I do have to admit our winter has been weird. We started off normal, -20 to -30 and snow, then we warmed up to +10 and the snow melted, then it rained a few times and the temperature dropped so it froze. You could literally skate down the driveways and on the roads, now we're back to snow and cold weather :-( And I know Albertans are supposed to love skiing, but I hate it. I would rather go snow shoeing or crazy carpeting.

Lets be honest @ducknme, the proper place for snow is at Christmas, and right before spring so it melts in time for the crops to take advantage.

@Ducknme - I know! it's tragic!
@Shanna - in summer its almost always hot, but in all the other seasons you experience ALL types of weather in ONE DAY! is scary.
And I'm sure you'd look better in a parker than with sweat dripping down your face. or needing to bring 5 different changes in clothes plus an umbrella because the weather could change in an instant.
And even with below freezing temperatures, I think I'd like it better than summer. You can always get warmer. (wear more clothes, put the heater on etc.) but it's VERY hard to get cooler. and forget sleep in summer!

@Jesse Ivanoff, we get the crazy weather here, and we have tornados in our spring/summer. I remember sitting at my aunts kitchen table eating a PB&J, and watching a tornado go by in the field next to her farm. Plus, we have portable air conditioners for the summer, lol. And it's always fun when your car won't start in the winter. Thank goodness for block heaters and remote car starters!
@ducknme, lol, crazy carpeting are these thin, flexible sheets of plastic with handles on one end and that have been waxed on one side so they go faster and you ride them down hills. Also fun is hooking up a GT Snowracer behind a snowmobile and going for a ride!

@ Jesse Ivanoff: Hey, I'm Australian, too! This Christmas was so much better than last year's - practically our entire state flooded, and half my city was underwater (but not where I am, thank god.) Yes, it was hot, but I like the heat anyway, and it's so much better than CONSTANT RAIN

@Jesse Ivanoff: Especially since a quarter of the book market got taken out with the collapse of Borders and Angus&Robertson bookstores. That's killed half the bookselling industry, here. And we didn't have that much of one to start with, really.

Do you find that it takes books ages to get here?

@thebibliothecadiscordia: absolutely. I was so upset when they shut down. Now the only chains are bookstores like Dymocks and Readings, as well as a few independent book stores. *sigh*
Yes! If a book comes out in America or England in January, it might come out here in April - or it might come out with only a few copies.
It's incredibly frustrating. take Gini's books for example, only a few bookstores stock them and when they come out, they're MONTHS behind America. Have you found that?

@Ducknme: I know right! Why thank you. I'm pretty sure they won't either. Maybe in Switzerland? or Antarctica?

@Jesse Ivanhoff - I'm not sure you would be able to accomplish it in Antartica, what with all the layers you'd have to have on in order to not freeze to death. Switzerland may be an option though....

@ Jesse Ivanhoff - Also, it is 14 degrees out this morning (-10C), so if you think the GoR are going to feel sorry for you and send you your ARC... Well you ,might be right they are pretty random. But Shanna and I don't feel sorry for you!

We are getting real snow now!!! Yay! It may all melt by 4 but it is certainly beautiful now...I live in Oregon, and area where we generally don't get much snow, so I am snow deprived...that may be obvious already. But I do not envy 14 degree weather. Ouch!

@thekrazikat - I saw on the news you guys are supposed to be hit with 10 - 12 in. of the stuff. Speaking as a former Seattleite - BE CAREFUL!

@ kelly - thats AWESOME!!! I am in Portland metro area...and the dang snow is turning to mush...but they say it will snow quite a bit so my fingers are crossed!
@ducknme - I just saw the "winter storm warning" that was issued saying we would get that much...I am stocked up and ready for it! I am sure the rest of the city isn't, though...we would no doubt be shut down...but I live like 2 blocks from the grocery store so I would happily make it! I want to build snow people!!!! Maybe I could make one kittying!

Now I want it to snow even more!!!! Is there anyway to be diplomatic with the weather?? Perhaps negotiate a little? Sheesh!

Well, I see that all you youngsters went and started without me AGAIN! Whatever happened to Respect Your Elders, eh? Just as I finally graduated from respecter to respectee, you whippersnappers went and discarded the whole concept! And notice that I'm not even complaining about this bloggy thing swallowing my first bunch of entries!

[Don't worry - I'm a polite old codger. I'm just going to leave that straight line laying there unmolested!]

As for diplomacy, I know all about it. Here at The Home you learn right away to be diplomatic with the people who give you your shots.

Hi, Ducky!

I'm so filled with diplomacy that I'll even pretend that Kelly hasn't been spending all of her time thinking up sleazy ways to artificially amp up her post count.

@Ducknme: Yes, I suppose you're right. :P I kinda figured that. However, I still feel sorry for me, and that's what counts, yeah?:P plus, everyone I know loves this weather (I hate it) and they're all good swimmers (I literally couldn't swim to save my life) AND they all have air cons. (Nope, not me) I do however have heater(s) and extra blankets and a kettle. So I'd much rather be where you are!
