@Kelly - I may be old and in The Home, but I'm still big enough that knocking me down - nicely or otherwise - might be a touch difficult for you. I'll also show you another meaning for ARC...A Right Cross.

Then, we need to ****************** and ***************, and throw ********** under the wheels. Now, everyones got that? Good, @thekrazikat, Joan Jett is a good start, but we're going to need some AC/DC Thunderstruck, some Blondie, definitely some Aerosmith, and well, you know the secret weapon. Alright, let's put this plan into action!

@ratkin, sometimes you need to kick things off with the classics, I suppose I could have tossed in some Nine Inch Nails, some Rammstein, a little Nickelback (yes, I know lots of people hate them, but I like them and they put on an awesome show, as well as passing out free beer and Jaeger Bombs) and many other bands, but limited room to write, and no need to re-list bands everyone knows and loves already!

@ducknme, yes well, the Jager bombs were in my younger, more impetuous days, lol. Not so much anymore though. So, besides kick a** Kitty books, what books/ genres do you like to read?

January 18, 2012 at 11:10 AM
Blogger ducknme said...

@Shanna - I have always been a sci-fi/fantasy fan, I read Dune beore it was cool. But I like anything as long as it has a good story and is decently written. I just finished a book called Pie for my bookgroup which was okay, but at the end of every chapter it had a pie recipe which was fun. I've tried a couple of them and they were very good. I love children's lit. The Sisters Grimm is my current favorite in that genre. I reacently read a historical account of a blizzard in 1888 called The Children's Blizzard. both the book and the actual Blizzard. So called because so many children were caught in it.
And Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and The Night Circus were recent faves. And for Bookgroup next month we are reading a book titled This Dark Endeavor which is a prequel to Franenstein. I haven't read it yet but it looks facinating.

Most diplomatic moment (14 years ago): when my then-soon-to-be-mother-in-law told me I should have an abortion (of her first grandchild) "Because babies aren't dolls, you know." I showed much diplomacy in not projecting the witch through the nearest window of the Chinese restaurant we were sitting in.

Second greatest diplomatic moment (last month): sending the-now-ex-monster-in-law the email her "golden boy" sent me which stated he didn't want anything more to do with his sons (her grandsons). I wrote that I was happy for her to see the boys whenever possible. She sent a nice note back.

And I'm sure she's making his life a living hell. Diplomacy at work is a beautiful thing!

I just finished typing up a couple of my pie recipes for a friend, and since I said I would share, here they are:

LEMON CHESS

4 eggs
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 TBS cornmeal
1/4 c butter melted
1/2 c milk
juice of 2 large lemons
( I also add the zest of one lemon since I like it very lemony, you can skip this or add less zest if you desire.)

Mix all ingredients together until sugar is dissolved, do not beat. Pour filling into an unbaked pricked pie shell and bake at 425 for 10 minutes, and then turn temperature down to 350 and bake until set. (It took about 20 minutes for me.) Cornmeal will form a crust on top of the pie.

PEANUT BUTTER RASPBERRY CREAM PIE

(The instructions say this is supposed to be enough for 1 deep dish pie. I still had way too much filling. You could make two pies from this.)

1/2 c peanut butter
1/2 c powdered sugar
2c milk
1 egg yolk
3 TBS flour
3/4 c sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
pinch of salt
1 small box rasperry Jell-o
2 c raspberries (fresh or frozen)
Whipped cream (topping)

Mix peanutbutter and powdered sugar together until it forms little balls. Put mixture in the bottom of a cooled prebaked pie crust(s).

Heat milk in microwave, do no tboil. In seperate saucepan combine egg yolk flour, sugar vanilla and salt. Slowly add heated milk stirring constantly. Continue stirring until mixture comes to a boil. Cool then por on top of peanut butter crumbs.

Prepare Jell-o according to pkg. directions. Cool then add raspberries. Let Jeoo-o cool then thicken slightly. Jello should be thick enough to be firm, but still pourable. Pour on top of pudding. Serve with wipped cream.

Oh here's the Knock-You-Nakeds though, i forgot I had this one typed out already.

KNOCK-YOU-NAKEDS
■1 box (18.5 Ounce) German Chocolate Cake Mix
■1 cup Finely Chopped Pecans
■1/3 cup Evaporated Milk
■1/2 cup Evaporated Milk (additional)
■1/2 cup Butter, Melted
■60 whole Caramels, Unwrapped
■1/3 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
■1/4 cup Powdered Sugar

Preparation Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl, mix together cake mix, chopped pecans, 1/3 cup evaporated milk, and melted
butter. Stir together until totally combined. Mixture will be very thick.

Press half the mixture into a well-greased 9 x 9 inch square baking pan. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove pan from oven and set aside.

In a double boiler (or a heatproof bowl set over a saucepan of boiling water) melt caramels with additional 1/2 cup evaporated milk. When melted and combined, pour over brownie base. Sprinkle chocolate chips as evenly as you can over the caramel.

Turn out remaining brownie dough on work surface. Use your hands to press it into a large square a little smaller than the pan. Use a spatula to remove it from the surface, then set it on top of the caramel and chocolate chips.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from pan and allow to cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate for several hours. When ready to serve, generously sift powdered sugar over the surface of the brownies. Cut into either nine or twelve helpings, and carefully remove from the pan.
