@All - I've been less than knocked out as far as winning anything on Goodreads, which is my only complaint with the site. I won a book with just about the first drawing I entered, but that's about it.

@Cody Calahan, I too have a goodreads profile. If I had the internet, I would let you know what name it is under, but... I would have to leave this page, try to look it up, then come back and its too much work on my phone right now. Maybe I'll take my laptop to the old house tomorrow...
@ratkin, I've read a few of the Elemental Assassin books, they were not bad. I really liked her superhero type series, too bad it was discontinued :-( Although I do really want to try her Frost series, it looks really good.
Do you know what I hate though? When you find a really good series (for example Unded and Unwed) and then it just keeps going on forever and ever and you give up on it. I love Mary Janice Davidson, she's hilarious, but I am so done with that series of hers.

@Anon: I actually really like the Undead series, and I like that there's more than 3 books in it. I get what you mean about it going on for ages, but it'll end very soon and it's not like each book is exactly the same as the one before it.

@Anonymous - That's why I'm waiting (with some trepidation) to see where Estep's Elemental Assassin series will go. It was originally sold as a limited series, and that story arc was completed in "Spider's Revenge." Now that the series is continuing, who's to say how good it will be?

@Ratkin&Shanna: I'm one of those strange people that hate when a series ends (although I obviously understand that they do have to finish!) but I do hate it when the latest books aren't as good as when the series started out. Which is why I generally like spin offs!

@ratkin, Yes, I've only won one book from Goodreads too. I win a lot more from LibraryThing (4 so far).

@Jesse, I liked Estep's superhero series too and I have the first of her new YA series on my To be read pile.

@ratkin, I know! I don't mind when they focus on different characters in a long running series, but when its about one main character for 14 books, you're kind of like, what else can possible happen?

January 22, 2012 at 12:05 AM
Blogger ratkin said...

@Jesse - I will read a good series for as long as it stays a good series. My example of a series that went off the rails is Laurel Hamilton's Anita Blake series. The early books were great, but somewhere along the line it stopped being a science fiction series with sex scenes and started being a sex series with sporadic outbreaks of science fiction.

January 22, 2012 at 12:06 AM
Blogger Shanna said...

@ratkin, I totally agree! I was just going to mention her series as a good book gone bad lol! It seems like she just kept trying to outdo herself book after book and I'm like, if I wanted porn, I would look in the porn section, this is supposed to be sci-fi/ fantasy!

Blogger ratkin said...

@Becky - I read "Karma Girl" after finding a used copy. I enjoyed it a bit, but there's no mistaking the fact that it's a first effort. Her later stuff is much better written.

January 22, 2012 at 12:10 AM
Blogger Becky B. @ Bibliognome said...

@ratkin, true, I probably liked it so much because I love reading books with superheroes. That series has prompted me to check out her other series too though.

January 22, 2012 at 12:15 AM
Blogger ratkin said...

@Shanna - Conversely, the series I would love to see go on and on is ending after the next book! I love Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate books, and it's over after the new book comes out. She'll have a spin-off series, but close doesn't count.

January 22, 2012 at 12:17 AM

@all(or those who care 'cause I'm too lazy to single 'em out) I liked Nicole Peeler's series, and I've no idea when it's gonna end. currently there's 4 books out and I know there will definitely be at least 6 books. Oh! I love Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld and Alien huntress, LoTU will have at least 12 (but probably more) and alien huntress has about 8 but with spin off. But with those (except Nicole Peeler) they have different narrators each time, so I suppose it makes a difference.

@ratkin - "I like Patterson's Maximum Ride books as a concept, but his practive of having 'chapters' that are about ten sentences long gets tiresome." I laughed when I read that. That's the same reason I quit reading that series.

On the lip! If its going to happen, it happens to her. And always in the worst possible way! And in regards to the Haiku, yeah, that's what I thought!

I dunno whats next (but I can say she makes a TERRIBLE patient!) wow! I'm sorry about your friend! the poor thing!

@Cody and Jesse - Let me repeat my earlier suggestion: the Alien Collective HQ website fan forum would be a perfect place to carry on conversations like this once the contest is over. If you haven't been there, try http://aliencollectivehq.com/?page_id=269

It hasn't really gotten a lot of action yet, but it would be a great spot to stay together.

@Jesse - Here's a little Scooby trivia for you: the origins of Scooby Doo are in the old Hanna-Barbera series The Jetsons. Scooby is a ringer for their dog Astro, except for a color change from grey to brown. Even the voice the largely the same.

@Ratkin: damn. Here I was hoping that it had the latest in software-ripping-off-technology! :P well, it kinda does. "the person who males her awww the most" but snark is easier. and funnier. @Jesse - In the woods near The Home there are foxes, coyotes, deer (although they're usually out playing with the antelope), turtles, butterflies, mosquitoes, and all sorts of other assorted Flora and Fauna. (Flora's my girlfriend, you know.) A few butterflies hanging around aren't a treat.
