International Contest

It's time to get your win on and grab a copy of my newest release, The Night Beat, Book 1 of The Necropolis Enforcement Files! There are not 1, not 3, not 5, not 7, but 9 (that's right NINE!) copies up for grabs, which means a lot of winning's about to go on. I know! It's too happy to be true!

So, Hook Me Up! subscribers who have sent in your proper entry emails, riddle me this:

What's your favorite kind of undead, and why?

Love,
Gini

LEGALESE
Contest will run from Friday, June 29, 2012 through Friday, July 20, 2012. (Why so long? Because San Diego Comic-Con means I'll be out of town and you'll have more time to enter and get extra chances to win!) Winners will be announced week of July 23rd. This is an international contest -- as long as you're on Planet Earth, you can enter and win.

NOTE: International winners will receive an ebook copy. U.S. winners will get their choice of an ebook or trade paperback copy. U.S. winners must have a deliverable address - no P.O. boxes. Prizes may take 2-4 weeks to ship.

Squee! New series, new hotties, new action, a new heroine, what more can a girl want? I just bought the kindle edition, but if I were to be kissed by a star and win a copy from you. I've got a least 10 friends that would LURV to have a copy. Best of luck and thank you for some of the best reading hours and days.

My favorite kind of undead are vampires - there's just something about those cold, pasty white, powerful blood suckers that appeals to me. :D

I like my undead hot; I don't care about species, origin or ethnicity as long as they're sassy inside and out.

My favorite kind of undead are vampires. They are my favorite because of the Twilight novels since I enjoyed reading about the main characters so much. I love your Alien series more, though! :)

favorite kind of undead are... all ^^ it's hard to choose. I'm very found of werewolves, espacially those from the Mercy Thompson novels by Patricia Briggs and The Parasol Protectorate by Gail Carriger.

I'm also deeply in love with the vampire Eric Northman in Charlaine Harris' novels... and I'm a zombie fan forever :D

Well of course I tend to enjoy the vampire type of undead, especially if they are of the Eric, Angel, or Spikey kind LOL After all so many of the other undead are a bit smelly and always have things falling off the dudes TMI! I am so excited that you have come down to the underworld with The Night Beat that I am having one of those moments of reaching back and forth to the coffee cup begging my mind for some sufficiently smackalicioius comments to make that will make coke squirt out your nose! However, have you ever noticed that when those comments come to mind there is no computer in site, you are on the pot or brushing your teeth and see a three inch eyebrow hair sticking out that no one has mentioned being there and you suddenly realize that all those otherworldly spirits you thought you were communing with were just a three inch eyebrow hair. (hitting head on desk and grabbing for coffee cup). Well my friend if you have never been in this situation - beware there are more things out there than we know, but first check the eyebrows!

I've got to say that vampires tend to win the Undead contest, but in particular I love the freedom they provide their writers. Jeaniene Frost has hers walking in sunlight with glowing green eyes and a whole slew of possible bonus powers. MaryJanice Davidson has her night-bound, immortal, and blood thirsty...but otherwise they're just like ordinary people. Kristen Painter has a whole feudal house system based around vampires. Ilona Andrews has her vampires set up like rabid beasts used as puppets by those with the gift to do so. Virna dePaul has her vampires being born rather than made. And those are just a few examples! There's so much lore, so much potential surrounding the vampire...what's not to love?

I agree that vampires are my favorite undead. They are so versatile in their roles in fiction. I just can't picture a zombie as the strong, sexy protector. (shudders a little)

Werewolves are pretty cool, but they'd get a bit unpleasant to deal with around "that time of month". One person in the house who gets grumpy and snarls a lot around the full moon is quite enough, and I've already filled that post myself.

Ghouls aren't bad, but the whole cannibalism deal is a bit of a turnoff. I might consider a ghoul if he were willing to brush his teeth often, but he'd still be embarrassing to go out to dinner with.

Ghosts, well, you can't touch them. Makes them a bit useless, I think. Need I say more?

Vampires are definitely the sexiest, and they do seem to have the the best dress sense of all the undead. I'd date a [non-sparkly] vampire over any other form of undead, so I'll choose it as my favorite.

K. Klien - You cracked me up! I hadn't even considered a ghost. It would definitely be useless for certain things!

I forgot to mention that my vampires have to be the non-sparkly kind!

Hi Gini, congrats on your new release! My favorite undead would be vampires (and no not the sparkly kind). They're sexy and alluring and there is something very animalistic (is that a word?) about them.

Thanks for the giveaway!

I can't wait to start reading your new series! I need something to keep me going until my next Kitty & Martini fix lol.

When it comes to romances my favourite kind of undead are definitely vampires. If you're talking horror then you can't beat a good zombie story but when you try to combine zombies with rotting body parts and kissing it's just wrong!

@ K. Klein - bwahahahaha at your comments about werewolves! I'm not sure if they count as undead but even if they do you're right about not needing more than one person in the house who is a nightmare once a month

I think we all need to get creative! Yes, vampires are the hot undead but there has to be more variation. Not that I can think of it but there HAS to be. I don't think werewolves are undead. And zombies are zombies! Ghouls and ghosts have been mentioned. Have I missed any?

My favourite undead human-style winner would have to be zombies, because they love me for my brains (and probably my bodacious curves as well). I think they'd make great PMS punching bags as well, particularly as conversation isn't really their forte.

Granted some vamps are pretty hot, but I always wonder how their control would be a few days AFTER I've been PMS'ing. Twilight never dealt with THAT piece of housekeeping!

Hmm,just thinking about it I think I have to change to golems. They aren't strictly alive, but they're not strictly dead either, and having something to do my will, exactly how I want - housework, rub my back, take me for a ride ;) - is way more appealing than meaty morning breath or pointy sun allergies.

Just remembered another contender - mummies, of the dried and bound in a sarcophagi/desert variety!

I had never considered them very interesting in stories before (sand pouring out? Yawn!) but seeing the cheeky, bowler-hat wearing mummy (an astrophysicist!) in Luc Besson's 'The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec' I'm thinking about changing my undead rankings again!

Thanks for this contest Gini - it's making me wander off in my head quite happily!

!!!!! - some extra exclamation point love for you too right there :) !!!!!

Thanks Gini for giving me several series to sink my teeth into... I'm a very fast reader and if a book is lively, exciting and well written, it spools in my head like a movie. Your books are like that. They make me laugh out loud .. Which got me in trouble once,( but I swear the funeral was over!!)

My favorite undead would be vampires .. Not the scary ones, but the Heroic, romantic, but I can still kick butt type.. High in Power but uncertain dealing with love... asking a lot huh?

Your books are worth rereading and passing on to friends and family.. I am so looking forward to the new series.

Selwyn -
I order not to gross out about the whole vampires and "that time of the month" I just tell myself "it's not fun for me so it probably smells bad to them". Or "that's dead blood not fresh live blood". Wouldn't that be a kinky, gross vampire who is turned on by THAT?! Ewwww!!!
