Comic-Con Swag Packs of Bodacious Awesomeness Giveaway!
FOR HOOK ME UP! ONLY -- INTERNATIONAL CONTEST
I went to Comic-Con 2011, got to be on a panel with awesome authors, meet fans, act like a huge fangirl, and generally have a blast…and all you’re getting is…a chance to win a literal cornucopia of goodies! Contest is for Hook Me Up! subscribers only, is international in scope, and will run through Wednesday, August 17, 2011.
And Here Come the Packs…*
…cleverly named for actual Comic-Con events and attendees. ‘Cause we bring the full entertainment experience, baby!
The Hall H Swag Pack
The big cheese. Something from everything, including the most exclusive of exclusives: a Comic-Con keepsake program signed by me and every other author on my Speculative Fiction panel. No one else in the world will have this with these 8 autographs. There will be other signed goodies, including a set of Alien Series posters, all signed by moi (yes, including a poster for “Alien Proliferation”), buttons, posters, T-shirt, sunglasses, cap, line chair, books, and more. And when I say more, I MEAN more. This is the Swag Pack all others want to be when they grow up.
The Room 20 Swag Pack
Close to the Hall H, but featuring a focus on Covert Affairs, Psych and Ringer, along with signed goodies, including a set of Alien Series posters, all signed by moi (yes, including a poster for “Alien Proliferation”), buttons, posters, T-shirt, sunglasses, books, and more. And again, I MEAN more.
The Exhibit Hall Swag Pack
Posters, posters, and more posters, many signed, all cool. If it can curl up and fit into a mailing tube, it’s in here. Includes a set of Alien Series posters, all signed by moi (yes, including a poster for “Alien Proliferation”). You’ll be able to wallpaper at least one room with the contents of this Pack, maybe your whole house.
The Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack
This is the pack particularly loaded with books, sample chapters, other reading matter, as well as a sampling of other awesome Comic-Con stuff, and both an exclusive Jim Butcher/Dresden Files T-shirt and an exclusive Brenda Novak scarf (which I wanted to keep for myself BUT am handing over to this Pack’s winner because I’m a giver, me).
The Allen Gregory Swag Pack
Focused more on the little ones, this Pack features an exclusive Allan Gregory baseball cap, masks, and other coolness focused on the kids, and those of us who will remain kids forever. Includes a set of Alien Series posters, all signed by moi (yes, including a poster for “Alien Proliferation”), buttons, and all manner of other fun stuff.
The Val Kilmer Swag Pack
Val was a surprise attendee at the con this year, and what’s in this Pack will be a surprise, too. Trust me when I say that you’ll get signed stuff, cool stuff, and other stuff. This one goes to the contest entrant whose witty, urbane, and all around awesome smack talk on the Blog either makes me snort Coke through my nose or go “awww” the most often. Yes, this is the only pack chosen by moi instead of the Gods of Random.
By the way, when I say “Pack” I MEAN “PACK” and when I say “stuff” I mean “awesomeness”. Each winner will get an exclusive Comic-Con Swag Bag (some may get more than one) chosen at random by me, along with other Comic-Con firsts and exclusives. All the Bags are cool, most are huge, all were handled by moi and probably used to get swag home, so they’re REAL, baby! All the Bags are Comic-Con exclusives, too, making them bodaciously awesome.
How to Enter to Win:
1. Be a registered Hook Me Up! subscriber. (Not on? Send an email to gini@ginikoch.com with “Hook Me Up!” in the subject line.)
2. Respond as instructed by the secret, Hook Me Up! messages that will go out from August 3rd through August 17th.
3. Cross the digits that you’re one of the winners selected by the Gods of Random!
*Some Packs will include swag from Thriller Fest and RWA Nationals.
Catch-22s, Gotchas, Legalese
Due to sheer weight and volume, international winners may be asked to help cover postage (depends on what you win and where you are). Therefore, if you reside outside the U.S. and you’re not willing to potentially share in postage costs, please don’t enter.
Swag Pack contents subject to change, based on what might not have made it home safely without being trashed. Packs also subject to being increased and/or doubled in availability, ‘cause I’m not kidding when I say I got a LOT of swag.
Contest runs from Wednesday, August 3rd through Wednesday, August 17th. This is an international contest -- as long as you’re on Planet Earth, have a deliverable address (no P.O. Boxes, please), and are a registered Hook Me Up! subscriber, you can enter and win. Winners will be announced in the week of August 22nd. Prizes may take 2-4 weeks to ship; it may take 6-8 weeks for international.
That's it! So, Hook Me Up! entrants, answer these questions three: Which Swag Pack do you most want to win and why, and if you were going to San Diego Comic-Con with me, what one thing would we HAVE to do?
Love,
Gini

Woot! This is such an awesome giveaway!! Thanks Gini!!
I love swag ! Hook me up girl, this is awesome!
sounds like some awesome comic con packs . Muah
Oh yeah that was fraking swagalicious!
1.Room 20 baby!
2. We would totally need to find a pair of very good looking guys in Armani to walk around the con, while we have a huge bag like Kitty and plush alligators. :)
Oh yeah that would be the awesomesauce. I need to register on the Con early for 2012.
Teri C
Outstanding! I'm not sure which swag pack I'm hoping for most. I'd love the Alien series things in Hall H, but I am a HUGE Psych fan, so Room 20 would be fantastic. Can't go wrong with more things to read in the Mysterious Galaxy Pack.... *sigh* So many good choices. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks, Gini - this must be a lot of work to coordinate. And thanks to your personal pack mule for carrying it all home!
Wow, this is amazing! Did you have your own sherpa to bring all this home?! All the packs sound incredible and I hope I'm lucky enough to win one, but if not it's still cool to be part of all the fun! Thanks Gini for all the work that went into this :)
I would love to win the Room 20 Swagpack or The Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack, both sound totally awesome. :D
Flippin' sweet, Gini!!!! Sounds like you had a great time and probably had to pay extra just to get all that swag home!
I have to ask, did you get to meet Val Kilmer??? He's always been one of the dreamy guys on my list. ;-)
I love this giveaway, why you may ask, well because I won the top prize last time :)
So perhaps everyone should bow down to me now and know that the gods of Random are usually on my side :)
Well anyway here are my answers to the questions:
The swag pack I most want to win is of course the Hall H Swag pack because if it's anything like the last pack it will be filled to the brim with awesome stuff and I could always use more awesomeness in my day. :)
If not that one though I'd love to win The Room 20 Swag Pack or The Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack. These packs would be great because the show Psych is one of my favorites and any pack loaded with books is one that I know I would like to win.
If I was going to Comic-Con with you we would have to dress up of course and monitor/stalk all of the celebrities there. And of course take lots of pictures.
Which Swag Pack do you most want to win and why, and if you were going to San Diego Comic-Con with me, what one thing would we HAVE to do?
I want to win the Room 20 prize pack because I like you are a USA Fan and would loved to have seen some of my favorite stars. But if i don't win that one I would love the Val Kilmer pack because he is mysterious as the swag bag LOL.
Well If was going to San Diego Comic Con and you were by my side , I would love to swooning over Nathan Fillion and trying to get his signature for his Castle Books and Browncoats Unite.
Here is hoping the random is on my side again.
Hi Gini,
It sounds as if you had a blast!
I'd love to win the Mysterious Galaxy Sway because, well, JIM BUTCHER! Love his books! And the Brenda Novak scarf is very nice. Love her books too.
If I went to Comic Con with you I would watch a few Diners, Dive and Drives and hit a bunch of hole-in-the-wall restaurants around the area...OH, you meant IN Comic Con? OOooh, we could stalk Nathan Fillion and try and get as many pictures with him without him knowing it. :-)
All the packs are awesome, thanks for the giveaway Gini!
1. Hall H, because the name bring back memories when I went to Comic Con 2 years ago..had a blast seeing on the Panel there. Hopeing to go next year *crosses fingers*
2. We would hit up all the foodie places around SD!
Littopandaxpress(at)yahoo(Dot)com
Dont suppose one lucky winner could challenge in a grudge match for ALL the swag packs... *crosses fingers* Hahaha just kidding! These things are AWESOME! so excited!
Oh, I'd love to win them all, but the Hall H one sounds full of awesomeness. :)
Okay, if I would have gone with you, I would have done everything possible to drag Nathan Fillion over to meet you, and me of course. We're both Canadian, so I could appeal to that similarity, or I could just flash him. LOL 'Cause, you know, walking around topless is allowed up here, at least outdoors.
But it seems you saw plenty of hunky celebrities while you were there. :)
Passin on the Comic Con Love...very cool!
I have never been to the SDCC. I loved the NYCCC, I bet SD was a blast! Maybe you'll make it out the NYCCC someday!
@JeritheArtist, I for one would love to have a grudge match for all of the packs I have a feeling though that people will fight dirty. :)
If I was to travel anywhere in San Diego. I would take you to visit the zoo, and maybe take a cruise around it and maybe if we have time visit the navel base. Hunky men.
Ok I totally call dibs on The Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack...though all of these swag packs are FAB-U-LOUS!
And why, you ask...well, I am just ramping up my own blogspot site, and reviewing books is going to be one of the things I do there.
And I'm thinking the superstar spa treatment would be welcome after a long day at the San Diego Comic-Con. Maybe even a back rub by one of your clones would be in order, they seem so readily available on Twitter these days :)
All I can say is... WOW! You are awesome! Not only can you write such an addicting and wonderful series (I haunt Amazon for your next books!) but you put together such a spectacular giveaway!
I'd have to say if I could pick :) The Hall H swag pack would be my first choice followed by The Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack.
I'm not really familiar w/ Comic Con although if I could afford it, I'd definitely go! So I bow to your expertise at putting together a swag pack that anyone who loves UF/SciFi would love.
If I could have you accompany me on my virgin Comic Con trip, I'd let you enjoy the fun of seeing a newbie with her eyes and mouth wide open in amazement running around until she falls down :) Yeah, it'd be fun to see celebs, but as closet Sci Fi fan, I'd want to see the authors and comic book stars more!
Whoo hoo! I love swag! I'd pick the Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack because I loooove books and the scarf sounds something I could totally rock.
If we were going to Sandiego comic-con the one thing we'd have to do is dress up like sexy Kitty Kats and hunt us some hottie aliens - LOL!
I'm going with the Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack. Dude! (um, Dudette!) *g* A Dresden Files t-shirt!
As for what we'd do together? Why, stalk Nathan Fillion of course! He's my guy-I'm-not-married-to-crush.
I would LOVE to win the Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack because there are BOOKS involved. I LOVE books and things to read and JIM BUTCHER!
And if I went to SDCC with you, err... well we'd HAVE to rate the people walking by, I mean that's a given no matter what. But to be honest I've never been to a comics con, so you'd have to show me all the good stuff.
Okay for reasons I won't go into on a public forum, I'm going with the Ballroom 20 Gift pack. Unless of course, you want to give me the Hall H instead.
If we were to goto Comic Con together, I'd first have to get my wife's permission, and then we'd of course goto my film, and panels. That is of course, if we're talking this last Con. For the next Con, I don't know what we'd do, but it will be fun. Probably the same thing. Attend each other's panels, and films....
thank you for giving away so much awesomeness!!:)
i would absolutely LOVE to win The Hall H Swag Pack or The Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack simply because they seem to have so much of awesome stuff in them!
i'm international so i don't know exactly how the whole comic con thing works but i'm a HUGE fan of Castle and Nathan Fillion so if we could go together we'd definitely have to meet the whole cast!(though i'm not sure i'd be able to form any coherent sentences as i'd be busy drooling over Nathan;)
Oh man, we have to choose? Well, first choice is the Hall H SP, of course. Because I've never been to SDCC, probably won't be, and that'd be the closest to really getting there possible! Bodacious? Right arm! (2nd choice w/have to be the Exhibit Hall SP, just 'cause I love posters. And Alien Series cover art posters? ::swoon::)
If I were going to Comic Con with you? Hm; how do you feel about a temporary and extremely polite kidnapping of Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki? Ok, joke, joke... ::hastily hides ninja mask, ice cream, the tequila and chocolate sauce:: Er. Yes. Barring that, sit around in some comfy spot with food, drink, and your closest umpteen friends at the con, and talk all night!
Hey, that's the best part of a con anyway. *g*
I guess The Hall H Swag Pack
But the next one with Psych, omg, I want that one too.
If we went to comic coon *fan girl squee* Well, I am sure I would drag you along to every fantasy author I could find ;) And if Misha Collin was there then we so would have to have our pics taken with him. Considering The Hobbit is coming then surely Richard Armitage will be there one year so we stalk him too, lol
So, how'd you carry all that home? Was it hard? Did you build an extra pair of muscles that people don't have until they go to the Comic Con? Where there REALLY hot guys there that helped you carry your things? Did you then ask them to carry you home? if they did - are you willing to lend me one? XD
Thanks SO freikin' much for the contest, it's made of awesome, sparkly things and butterflys - sorta like you - and we totally deserve it for being awesome and reading your amazing books! (we benifit in NO POSSIBLE WAY from reading such greatness. And then having comps full of greatness. not at all. We're all givers!
So, just to be special, I didn't answer the questions here (should I though, to increase my chances...?) I answered them via email- plz don't ask, the first email was such a fail.. - so, thanks again, you ROCK! xoxo J/Z
Hall H for me please please, and this will be my very first time . I always wanted to go to comic-con but never had the cash to do it.
Thanks very very VERY much for the awesome giveaway. I'll have my (and family's) fingers crossed. Toes included, of course.
I would LOOOOOOOVE The Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack *____*
Why? It has the magic word: BOOKS (Seriously, you still have to ask?)
I have never been to the Comic-con - pause while I wipe my tears - but I'll go. Someday. In the future. Hopefully. Anyway, if we went together, we would have to visit loads of panels ('cause I hear those are fun) and pretend not to speak english and trick people. Tricking people is also fun. Maybe we could cosplay. Maaaaybe. I'm not sure I have it in me. But, you know, there's NO WAY someone I know is going to find me there, so... *grin*
Where are some pics, and was your trunk overflowing with swag? If there was a police check and they asked what was in your truck, would you have been all, "Office there is some sweet sweet swag in my trunker."
ha. Hall H is totally my top choice but that Mysterious Galaxy does look like some greatness.
Thanx for hording up the swag from the con and sharing with us.
Kaya H
kasuranna at yahoo dot com
OMG! Jim Butcher! Eeeee! Fingers and toes crossed!
jepebATverizonDOTnet
Ooooh! Pretties!
A Haiku of Bodaciousness
Thy pack shall be mine
All thee other haters go
Gods of Random smile
WOW -
I guess I'd like The Hall H Swag Pack because it has something of everything in it. And if I were going to San Diego Comic-Con with you we'd have to drink margaritas :)
Thank you so much for such a great giveaway.
gini-such amazing stuff it is hard to pick just one but I would love to take you to the zoo and maybe beach and find some studly men.
These sound so awesome! Especially the H Hall, Room 20, and Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack! I think I like those best! I never usually win things like this but I'll give it a shot :) You are my favorite author so maybe my luck will kick in! lol!
I've never been to Comic-con but I am hoping to be able to go next year! It would be awesome to meet you! lol! And my boyfriend is a totally Armani lover so he would have no problem walking around the con decked out in an Armani suit! It would be pretty cool!
The one thing we would have to do...
Drag all the Armani dressed men and women we could find into one picture to make our own Alpha Centauri Team! And maybe find some poofs! I so want one of those! lol!
Alright. Answers to your "questions three":
1. Its a HUGE toss-up between Hall H, Val Kilmer, and the mysterious Galaxy Swag packs. 2. All three just make me drool.... and get more than a little giddy. and 3. Hehehe another Comic-Con with Gini, what fun! Okay, befor we go, we make t-shirts that read, "I went to San Diego Comic-Con, hung out with Gini Koch & Jeri Housel, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt!". We then hand them out at Comic-Con to actors of numiness and masterminds of geekery, demand they don them, and then take pictures with them. Of course we will have to throw in the odd request that we get a kiss (on the cheek, we are both of us married after all). Or if they are exceptionally muscly, we need HUGS!!!! Chris Hemsworth... *droooooool*
I think that we should go follow all the actors who are in the Avengers movie and all the Covert affairs and Psych panels...just saying I would stalk them with you and try to get more than signatures from them.
@Julie, I love that idea too and would definitely be willing to form some kind of stalking committee with you, Gini and whoever else wanted to join. :)
Oh ya, if I went to Comic Con I would totally have to dress up, lay off the Starbucks Fraps and squeeze into a cat suit. Can I get a sword too?? Galaxy Sway with books is the jam on toast.
OOOO, @ PinkPanda - You know where to get Poofs? I want one! "I will name him George, and I will hug him and pet him and squeeze him. ..."
Love Love this blog!! Love Love the books too.
Waiting most anxiously for alien Proliferation.
(Tick Tock Tick Tock) sound of my clock keeping time with impatiens.
Hey Gini,
This swagalicious contest is right up my alley. I want to be on the Alien Proliferation train with the rest of you smack talkin peeps!
See ya,
Dana
Readaholics Anonymous
@My 5 little monkets: I want to go to the SD zoo too! Never been there...I WANT TO SEE THE PANDAS!! haha
@Ducknme: I saw the word "BOOKS" in the HALL H swag pack too...got a little excited there ;P
@Pink Panda: I couldn't go this year to comic con either...ticket sold out so FAST. I'm also hoping to attend next year *finger crosses*...wonder when the ticket will be on sale
I want the swag package that includes Kevin Smith! Oh, what you don't have that? And you call yourself a fan girl? Well, then I guess I'll want to have Hall H ... cuz Kevin Smith was there too... and that's the closest I can get to Kevin Smith (for now ... until I go see him perform Hollywood Babble On). And the Mystery Galaxy, and that's easy, it's the one that contains books, books, and of course, more books! And what would we do at Comi-Con 2012 ... I cannot divulge details, but I know there will be rope, duct tape, black suits and cute celebrities involved! ;)
@becky
the more the merrier to help with the stalking . So who would you stalk with me ?? I get dibs on nathan and Michael Weston.
@vam pham-- I know the zoo is fun place and maybe we can see the ally gators and poofs
OMFG
*thud*
In all seriousness, since I've never won anything from you (but did kindly request my own swag pack once upon a time ;P) I couldn't care less which pack I get as long as I get one dammit! *shakes fist at the Gods of Random* @Becky, you lucky AC member you.
They all say 'signed' stuff and heck, it's signed. I don't care by who at this point lol
I am saving up like a lunatic for comic-con 2013! because 2012 is too busy a year (last year as a law student bitches yeah) and if we could go together what would we HAVE to do? jump into the nearest ball pit and randomly pop out at different intervals yelling Bazinga! Or in all likelihood, trying not to piss myself because I'm WITH you and AT Comic-Con ROFL
I'd like any of the them, but I would love, love, love the Ballroom 20 pack because I love me some Psych, plus True Blood, Dexter, Game of Thrones, Futurama and all that good stuff that may or may not be in there. And we would have to hit up all the crazy after-parties that you can't get into unless you know about them. :)
Oooo! What if we ALL went together dressed as AC's but trained chinchillas to walk on a leashes or ride in our purses. We could totally rock the Armani with essential Poof-in-a-bag look! Hahaha we could race wind-up crocodile toys down the aisles of the con!
@Julie, well we'd have to stalk Chris Hemsworth,Jared Padalecki from the show Supernatural, oh and of course James Roday from Psych. :)
@Camille, yep the gods of Random do seem to like me a lot. :)
@JeritheArtist, but who's going to train the chincillas?
As long as Jim Butcher is all mine you all can fight over the rest. I am still all tingly just thinking about it. And what's this about chincillas?
@Jen B. :) JeritheArtist thinks that chincillas should be trained to walk on a leash/go in a purse so they'll make a good stand-in for poofs.
@ Jessica Subject: woo-hoo I'm up for the topless walk thru!
@ Becky: well chinchilla trainers of course!
@Becky so I'm entitled to dislike you at least a little bit ;P
ok I'll retract the 'any swag pack' statement somewhat by admitting I don't care much for the Allen Gregory pack because I don't even know who that is LOL
@My 5 Monkey Julie: Yes alligators and Poofs!
@Camille: I'm with you, who is Allen Gregory haha
@Jodacious: I love me some True Blood and Game of Thrones!
(althought I must say..so far season 4 of True Blood...not so good right now >.< )
@Van yay! I thought I was the ignorant Australian but at least now I'm not alone lol
@Jodacious & @Van True Blood FTW!! as well as Game of Thrones....being down under means I really shouldn't be all caught up (or in the case of GOT all *done*) but one has methods >_>
Love the books! Can't wait until December - the swag make the waiting easier :)
using the wisdom of google I has discovered who or better yet what Allen Gregory is- I'd like to say a big thank you to Wikipedia, deemed 'unworthy' for assignment referencing for being the great toilet of dubious knowledge, as my professors have unfailingly referred to it by *le sigh*
@Becky - Thanks for the chincilla clarification. I must have missed that when I was reading all of the comments.
The comments got me to wondering about costumes. To heck with trying to find men and women in Armani suits. Do you think any of the costume shops rent them? We could be the ones in Armani. I would never buy Armani. The price tags send me into apoplexy but renting would be good.
Of course, I am still stuck on the idea of Jim Butcher. You all can have your Val Kilmer. Hey, does anybody know, was Jim Butcher's wife Shannon at Comic-con? I love her stuff, too.
@becky those are some great people to stalk
@Camille, of course but the doesn't mean that the gods of Random will like me any less. :)
@Julie, I know :) I love Psych and Supernatural (even have most of the books based on the series)
@Jen hopefully getting into the legal profession will one day give me an excuse (heck and the moola) to afford Armani lol
@Becky I know, then it'd be just disgusting unfair now wouldn't it? LOL Maybe I'll just bribe a well known daughter of the gods of random, better known as lady luck ;P
there are books based on Supernatural? @Julie not that I'd have time to even get to them, are they anything like the ones Chuck wrote on the show? the covers on those were brilliant!
@Camille, Good luck with that :)
The Supernatural books are pretty good (not like the ones Chuck wrote on the show)more just based around the series/filling in some blanks. I think the current one is based on the year when Sam was supposed to be dead/what Dean was doing that year.
I also have most of the Supernatural comics. They're really good and more of a prequel/the early years when their dad was still around.
@becky
I am a psych fan and do watch supernatural sometimes on the WB.
I also want to stalk Dr. Who and Torchwood too/Captain Jack
Is anyone else watching Miracle Day :Torchwood on starz ??
It has been brought to my attention that I am one of the collective who has been lost in an asteroid field. I know I have sent my messages through my communicator, but there is no record of it here - so somewhere out there in space someone or something is giggling over my many witticisms. So I will shout it out again Hook Me UP! baby. I would love to attend a Comic-Con with you and lurk, I love lurking. I want to see and meet all the fun folks you know and fill my transporter pod with loads of goodies to share with others and give them a taste of my joy. I would of course want The Hall H Swag Pack, because I am greedy like that and want to experience everything there is to experience from such an awesome event. OH! and books, I need books, must have books, they are a requirement for this entity to continue to function, as well as the fuel that continues to keep my ship galaxy hopping,so the Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack sounds incredibly tasty as well. Well my communicator is buzzing and I must be leaving now - we will be in touch again. Thank you so much for sharing the joy.
dz59001[at]gmail[dot]com
@My 5 Monkeys - I don't get Starz :( But my brother tells me I can catch up online. Gotta check it out. I think Gwen is awesome and her hubby Rhys is wonderful. I know, not fawning over Jack. Naughty me.
@Camille - Good luck on becoming a lawyer. Girl, once you can afford it, go with custom suits and blouses. Then you can spend money on some Manolo Blahniks!
Ok, time for a small admission. My little crush is on Colin Ferguson from Eureka. I just love him!
So, it occurs to me that I should actually want the Hall H gift bag, simply because, I've never been in Hall H. Seriously. I've touched the air wall that separates Hall H from the exhibit floor, but that's about it.
Oh, was actually in Hall H the first time we decided it would be Hall H, however, it wasn't Hall H then.
Clearly, my obsession with Hall H will stop, if I indeed win the Hall H gift bag.
And, we'd still do all the same things I said we'd do before, as long as it involves you guessed it, Hall H ;)
@Julie, sounds like we will have a very full schedule of stalking. :)
@Batman All I could think about while reading what you wrote is how the Count from Sesame Street would read your post (H is for Hall H, one H two H, Ha Ha Ha Ha).
@Camille: I just googled Allen Gregory too...and no wonder we don't know, the show hasn't even premiered yet!
Haha, that's good you're caught up with TB season 4..and hey what ever method works right? As long as we get to see it...I don't have HBO ;P
@Batman: I'm with you too on the Hall H swag bag! :D
@becky
making the plans and trying to figure GIni schedule so we can stalk and stalk and fangirl over those amazing actors
Must watch Torchwood
@Julie, Yeah, we will need one of those day planner books so we have organized stalking. :)
So many shinies! How can a girl pick between all the swag bags? That would be like trying to pick which hot alien in armani you would want..
Ok,I can't decide which one that I woudl WANT to win. Too bad I can't win all ;)
@Becky thanks! Will need all the luck I can get lol
@Jen oh man that sounds like a great idea! I can just see it.....*sigh* it's so beautiful I want to weep
@Van I don't have HBO either ;) though I grew up with it- good times. Yeah, whatever works! Though I do buy the season boxets when they're released to assuage my circumvention of our less than stellar tv networks for never getting anything on time! Once they air the show here oh 6 months to even years later (like Supernatural for example!) and the previews all saw 'new!!' er yeah it was new, last year *facepalm*
Really it's criminal how they keep fans out of the loop over here.
@Jess forgive me oh Cretor for advertising your just ask and I will give policy but did you ask Gini for some clones yet? Tee hee
cool beans on the stash contest:)
@Camille: Haha, yeah I use to have it too, but why pay for it when it's streamed on the internet right? Gah I can't believe you guys gotta wait 6 moth to a year to get what's currently airing over here...that totally sucks!
What about books, do you have to wait that long to when a new book is release here in the US?
@ EVERYONE :D
What is everyone reading right now? Curious to know haha
@ Van Pham
A couple of different books! Rereading Touched by an Alien by her awesomness Gini, Heartless by Gail Carriger, and Game of Thrones! Lol!
What are you reading Van Pham? Lol!
@Van trust me, with supernatural it wasnt even in tv for 2 yrs!! Not with True Blood it won't air until September- you can't beggar people and then blame them for stealing!!
With books sometimes we get it a month or two later, usually it will be simultaneously released and the bookstore I work at is great because we aim to have it on the release day which isn't the norm over here because of suppliers.
Reading Tobacco Stained Mountain Goat (interesting tile no?) by Andrez Bergen, an Australian expat author whose book launch I've been invited to next week- I'll be reviewing it over at BookThingo.com too so check it out soon if you guys can ;)
Also juggling it with second book in JD Robb's 'in death' series which I'm trying again because I couldn't get into it the first time and I think I just didn't have my heart in it- must know this obsession with Roarke!! After book 1 I get the Roarke fangirls but it's not the best piece of romantic suspense I've read so hoping it will get better.
This doesn't include the textbooks I HAVE to read of course LMAO
Oh and just got my copy of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander 20th anniversary edition (purely for collector purposes) and it's GORGEOUS!! *purr purr*
So what's everyone else juggling? Can you read more than one book at a time? Personally I have no problems doing so but I've heard some that can't
@Pink Panda: Danng you're reading three at one time!? How is Heartless going? I just Won the Song of fire and Ice series..so I will need to be starting that one soon.
The next season won't air till next year *sobs*
I just recently finished Shadow Hills by anastasia hopcus, a really good YA! Also I'm about two chapters into Kindling the Moon by Jenn Bennett...so far so good.
@Camille: Haha, totally agree with the stealing. >.<
That's good that you don't have to wait for books as long as you do for tv shows. Does the Book Depository ship to Australia?
Ugh, I start school in 2 weeks dreading it, and dreading the cost of the textbooks! So expensive!!
I just recently finished Shadow Hills by anastasia hopcus, a really good YA! Also I'm Currently reading Kindling the Moon by Jenn Bennett, about two chapters in.
Can I read more than one book at a time? Definitely not, I would probably get my reading confused especially because it's all paranormal books.
@Van Pham, @Camille,
I just finished reading WITCH EYES by Scott Tracey (it's really good).
Then got another tour book in the mail today, THE UNBECOMING OF MARA DYER which looks really interesting.
I used to be able to read more than one book at a time but don't anymore. I find it easiest to read one book at a time so I can fully concentrate on it. :)
Ooooh, Mysterious Galaxy is my kinda Swag! The wondrously snarkalicious Jim Butcher is keeping me up nights with Ghost Story whilst I await Alien Proliferation, and doing a damn fine job of it!
Thank you, Gini your beloved pack mule for thinking of us and toting all that swag home, sorting, & shipping it to me! I mean "us".
@Van Pham - I can't imagine having to wait 6 months to a year to get books after they release. I decided this week to wait for a book that just came out in hardcover. It's just too expensive. I plan to wait for paperback or the Kindle edition to have a price break. I recently received the first book in a series from the UK. I found out after I read it and fell in love with it that the other books in the series might NEVER come to the US! What to do?
@Pink Panda - I read and loved Heartless. I am so sad there is only one more book in the series!
I am currently reading Tall, Dark and Wolfish by Lydia Dare on my Kindle. And I am reading Sisters of the Sari by Brenda L. Baker. It is a wonderful story!
Okay, we *could* train chincillas to be poofs, and we *could* rent Armani suits, but I would have problems with both of those. I can't afford a chincilla, especially a trained one and I don't think Armani makes my size, I'm not exactly a Dazzler. I would only be able to reasonably be a fugly, and I don't wanna go there. I know! I'll be an angry Poof!
@becky
read witch eyes and loved it.Right now reading girl of fire and thorns.
@Van: I didn't mention the books I also have to read for review so I juggle 4 or 5 at a time most days unless on a holiday and I take my sweet time with 1 before I move on to another ;P
Yes bookdepo does indeed ship here yay! They have wonderful customer service IMHO
ugh don't start with textbooks, law texts are big overpriced boring tomes you'll probably only read once! Second-hand hunting is a must
don't normally read YA unless the author was a romance author first who went backwards and wrote a YA or unless I'm really hooked on storyline or if cover is pretty and not a twilight black/white/red knock-off XD
See with my, as I told a friend, switching reads is likely switching channels in my head- they're completely different even if both the shows happen to be cops shows- hope that made sense! ROFL
@Becky OOooOoohh that title is definitely catchy. I'll look into it.
I actually never used to juggle books but I guess I've evolved XD but juggling doesn't mean rushing it- I'm not a re-reader (very rarely these days, because there's not enough hours in a day) and so there's nothing like savoring a first time.
@Jen I don't care much about hardback price if I can get it cheaper in other ways (bookdepo, the bookstore I work at etc) and again, not that I judge books by their covers but I do impulse buy on covers haha, if the cover such as with Dan Dos Santos' work for example; like Gini's books the Mercy Thompson books are beautiful- I won't think twice about buying it in hb. Publishers will also release next Alpha/Omega book in hb, Dan Dos Santos is continuing as the artist- already bought in my head lol
What series from the UK is it? plus you can get almost anything on bookdepo.
Let me know about Lydia Dare, I haven't gotten any recs on her and I'm very interested :)
@ducknme I have 3 dogs and just as many cats who I think will mistake the chinchilla for food or a chew toy so I won't be getting one anytime soon :P Oh I'm sure there's an AC who would disagree with you and gladly be yours!!
@Becky:
Oh Witch Eyes, never heard of it...will search it on Goodreads haha
Oh! I want to read THE UNBECOMING OF MARA DYER when it comes out, the blurb sounds really interesting.
@Jen B: What book are you waiting for in paperback that just came out in hardcover? Yes, the prices are Hardcover are pretty expensive but I try to buy them online if anything. For example I recently bought Supernaturally by Kiersten White for $9.89 on Amazon, rather than in stores for the retail price of 17.99 ...technically that almost saving 50%! haha
Oh, what book did you recently get from the UK?! You have piqued my curiosity!! haha But yes, that sucks if the following series don't release in the US...perhaps you can get it on Book Depository?
@Camille:
Dang 4 or 5 books at at time..Crazy, You're Super Woman!!
I love the book depository, their books are ALWAYS discounted! Also there were many times when I received a damaged book and they would replace it with no charge. I didn't even have to send back the book.
I will definitely be trying to get my textbook online and USED if possible. Used book at school is a total rip off, I feel as if they're trying to rob us. Tuition just increased over here in the U.S and my parking permit is like freaking $220! Hate buying it, I barely use the textbooks. Bought a $300 textbook before and buy back at school was $20 dollars...sigh.
YA these days are all so similar, with the teenage angst and love triangle. Like you I will only likely pick up a YA if I read the author's adult series, or it has a catchy storyline/cover.
Like Richelle Mead, Jennifer Estep, Rachel Vincent and Kelly Gay...I read all their adult series first loved it and than found out they were writing a YA novel haha.
Okay, the TV reference really makes sense haha..I never looked at it,that way. ;P
Oh elders fleet and strong and wise, appear before my seeking eyes....
Oh, wait. Wrong Gods. Who are these Gods of Random that I must cater to in order to win the bodacious swag?
@Van, first I apologize for my appalling grammar! oh man, this is what happens when I reply on my iPhone >__<
haha thank you for the Super Woman reference ;D
yes they are! they day they started following me back on twitter one of my many wishes came true LMAO yeah they refund or replace- it's fantastic. Hopefully Amazon acquisition doesn't change anything.
Buy-backs suck, never done it- better to advertise and sell it to another student directly.
Love triangles *facepalm* unlike Kitty/Martini/Christopher they're all adults, I get it. But I doubt such things actually happen to teens- getting one guy to notice a girl in high school is hard enough let alone fending off 2 genuine advances but this may just be my experience (not that I'd dated any of the losers I went to high school with *shudder* banish the thought!)
Or Sophie Jordan and Lilith Saintcrow and MJ Putney ;D huge fans of their work before they started on YA.
haha yeah that reference helped my friend learn to juggle books ^_^
books in Australia are SUPER expensive it's not funny, we can't even get decently priced ebooks over here. A hardback or trade size paperback here usually costs about $AU29.99 (yes, outrageous)
New idea: We reenact the AC vs. Mephistopheles in the MIDDLE of Hall H. :)
any takers?
and Camille, I am SO sorry you have to pay a small fortune in books... that makes me sad.... :(
@JeritheArtist oh I'm up for that reenactment lol
Oh I personally don't pay the small fortune- I seek out cheaper alternatives- but people who don't know better *do* and that makes ME sad D:
@Van Pham - I was talking about waiting for Retribution by Sherrilyn Kenyon to come out in paperback. The things is, I read about 3 to 5 books a week. Even with the advance order discounts coming in around 50%, I still wouldn't buy this book. The series is not as good as it once was. I preordered Acheron and still stalked it in store just in case it was a little cheaper.
Of course, I can be a little more picky now that I have over 1,000 books in the TBR pile. That and I have some authors that I think are consistently amazing. Like Jacqueline Cary or Lori Armstrong.
@Camille - I would love to say that I am strong and don't judge a book by it's cover but then my nose would grow and we would have jumped the tracks into fairytale land! I think the covers for the Mercy Thompson books are extraordinary. They really portray the feel of the story. I think the covers for the Gini's novels are amazing. They almost feel alive.
As far as Lydia Dare's books, I really like them. They are light weight and easy to read. What I like most about them is that the characters are smart and witty. The setup is simple and direct. I find I like to read her books after I read something a bit heavier, more emotional or more detailed. Like reading Jacqueline Carey then switch to Lydia Dare.
@Camille: No worries, writing as much as you did on an iphone that’s pretty good haha. Amazon been good too, although once when they lost my books they IMPLIED that I stole it (as in I got it but said I didn’t) -_-‘’ I PAID for it why would I want to say I didn’t get it…I still don’t understand or appreciate the logic there.
Haha, yeah the whole two gorgeous guys falling in love with you in H.S. …like you said that rarely happens.
Whoa, books over there are expensive…crazy. Since you said you can’t get decent priced ebooks, does that mean you don’t own an Ereader? I prefer having a book in my hands and flipping through the pages, so I will never even consider an Ereader. Also the difference between in price for a hard copy and e-book is about $ 1 US or sometimes the hard copy would be cheaper than an e-book. Then again I can be wrong and everything will be just ebooks in the future…I’d be force to get one haha
@Jen B: Yes, that makes sense. I too wouldn’t invest money in a Hardback it the quality of writing or story isn’t as good as its predecessors.
Wow! You have over 1,000 books in your TBR pile…I think I have about barely 70 or so haha. Is your house full of book cases?!
@VanPham - I try to be good and not buy more books but I am weak. I try to be good and not buy more books but I am weak. I try to be good and not enter contests to try to win more book but I am weak. I have officially outgrown my bookshelves. The books are now stacked in front of what's stacked on the shelves. And, my bedside table is loaded down too. Maybe I need an intervention! HAHA!
@Camille "Oh I'm sure there's an AC who would disagree with you and gladly be yours!!"
Awww, that's sweet of you to say so. I always figure my husband loves me anyways and nothing else matters.
@Van Pham "YA these days are all so similar, with the teenage angst and love triangle. Like you I will only likely pick up a YA if I read the author's adult series, or it has a catchy storyline/cover."
Have you ever read "Impossible" by Nancy Werlin? It's a YA but it's AMAZING. I loved it. And no love triangles.
@Jerithe Artist "New idea: We reenact the AC vs. Mephistopheles in the MIDDLE of Hall H. :)"
Oh yes! Let's!
@Jen B "I try to be good and not buy more books but I am weak. HAHA!"
It's so refreshing to talk with people who understand my addiction. All of my bookselves are stacked three deep My nightstand is stuffed and I'm trying to figure if I would be a bad mommy if I took over my son's bookshelf.
@ducknme - I am suspicious that there are a lot of book lovers like us involved in this chat. It is nice to find others with my addiction. My family and friends sure don't understand it!
@Jen B: I try not to buy many books either but it's sooo hard! There are NEVER ENOUGH books :D
@Ducknme: No I haven't read it, what's it about? Is it a paranormal YA? I use to read contemporary but can't get into it anymore.
@ Van Pham
My cousin works for a book company so I walk in and instantly have a ton of books to walk out with. And since we read the same genres, I always love what she gives me! Lol! Her and her friend are the ones who introduced me to Touched By An Alien and I was hooked lol! We are all sitting around waiting for the next one! But I have a list of what to read and a pile already waiting on me to read them! Must start reading lol!
@Van Pham: The book is about a teenager and a curse and the song "Scarborough Fair". You know...
"Are you going to Scarborough Fair?
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme.
Remember me to the one who lives there.
She once was a true love of mine."
I'm not particularly a Simon and Garfunkel fan, and I actually picked up the book on accident, but it turned out to be a wonderful read.
Through no fault of her own she is under a curse that has haunted the women of her family for generations and the story is how she overcomes the curse so she does not go the way of her mother, grandmother, ect.
That book sounds cool! I'll have to give it a read. Have any of you guys read the Alien Huntress books by Gena Showalter? They're kinda like Gini's but not - lol! This month - and next month - in Australia all my fav authors (except Gini I think) have a book (or two!) comming out. My bookshelves are about to keel over they have so many books to support and my floor is becoming covered with the books that won't fit anywhere else! And do you know what i'm going to do? thats right! I'm going to march down to my fav bookstore and buy each and every new book thta i'm DYING for and enjoy every second of my (pennyless)existance! I <3 books WAY to much to stop and I'm sure you guys all feel the same! I also love Gini too much to stop entering comps - yeah - I know, I'm a real givver... :P
@Jen Dan Dos Santos is a genius ;) Mercy on his covers looks exactly like I think she should- though Martini is hotter in my head (I'm sure everyone else's too LOL) and Kitty has brownish red hair.
Oh yes Jacqueline Carey is definitely heavy fantasy! Alright, I'm putting Dare on my tbr pile :D (not that I need anymore tbr fodder *facepalm* I swear that thing grows on it's own without any help from me!)
@Van ROFL thank you for the acknowledgement of my underdeveloped iPhone skillz- though autocorrect is more often than not out to get my grammar and make turn me into a nonsensical lunatic though admittedly, they can be bloody hilarious!
I've only ever bought once from amazon (it was years ago now) and it took 3 months to get to me! and from your experience with their customer service there's no reason for me to ever buy from them.
which is why I don't get love triangles! I mean, every time I think- to quote the legendary Heath Ledger from cult teen movie classic 10 Things I hate about you--- 'what is with this chick, she got beer flavored nipples?!'
Oh it just means I can't buy ebooks from Australian publishers (it's sad, I mean I won't buy an ebook that's the same price as a paperback book!!!). I do have a wireless lilac Kobo :D I love it- got it for a steal! seriously, who here got an ereader for $20 measly bucks?! (getting one as a present doesn't count :P) It was from the Borders liquidation though (I was a previous employee D:)
I do still love my hard copy books, NOTHING will replace the way it feels in my hand and physically looking at your collection of books but there are fabulous authors out there who only publish e-books- you may be missing out Van ;) I don't buy ebooks that cost me more than $9- (rarely over $6 or $7 really because I can usually find the book on bookdepo for the same price)
no, I don't think ebooks will fully take over hard copy reading- it's not the same, though ebooks will likely be more prolific in the future (if the pubs ever get pricing right).
@ducknme tee hee! see your husband is a doll!! though I'm sure Gini will hand over a Martini, Christopher or whoever you would like cloned ;D or even one of the many AC's who would LOVE a human female! I'm quite content with my 2 Martinis, 2 Christophers and Robbie my AC lol
@Jesse LOL oh wowo Showalter's Alien Huntress books are really not like Gini's at all aside from the sexy extra terrestrials ;) Gini is more UF than paranormal. I do like Showalter's AH series more so than her Lords of the Underworld (I've been told I'm in the minority on this but come on!!)
You're Aussie??? *waves* hi!! me too :)
pfft welcome to the club of 'I buy books I can't necessarily read until I get through my ever growing tbr room' that's right, not pile, ROOM rofl I work at Dymocks, I practice self control everyday XP
@Camille - I totally understand where you are coming from with the tbr pile. My hubby just got me a Nook color for my birthday, (I don't KNOW, but I'm pretty sure it was more than $20) and I found a place on the Barnes and Nobel site that has free books. While a lot of it is erotica (eww) or preview books, or short stories, there are quite a few books too. Free books! WhooHoo! And that dosen't even take into consideration all the real books I have yet to read! Plus I can check out books from the public library on my Nook too, so, lots of free reading.
And yes, my hubby is a doll, I'm pretty sure Gini based her ACs on him, except he can't afford Armani either. He'd look heartstopping in it though.
@Van Pham, Witch Eyes was an awesome book, you should check it out. :)
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is great too I keep meaning to only read one chapter at a time but end up reading 3.
@JeritheArtist, Oh, I'm totally up for the Fugly battle reenactment.
@Everybody I agree I can never have enough books and my to read pile is also huge. :)
Ya know, we could probably breeze right through our to read lists if everyone would quit making us do things we didn't want to do. Like earning a living, cooking, laundry. The little unimportant details like that.
Though, now that I think about it, I'd probably just find other books I wanted to read....
@Pink Panda: OMG I AM SO JEALOUS! ;) That's cool, I wish I knew someone who worked for a book company haha.
I think I first learned about Touched by an Alien on various blog sites, it had amazing reviews. I wasn't into much sci-fi at the time but I'm glad I picked it up.
Every Tuesday (typical book release date) I see all the new books being release..I just add more to my TBR pile *sigh...although I'm trying to cut back on buying so much. TBR pile keeps getting bigger and bigger.
@ducknme: That sounds really interesting! I will probably pick it up the next time when I'm at the book store. Thank you for the recommendation :D
@Jesse: What books are you looking forward to read/buy? I only have a small book shelf and my little bed has that built in shelves for the headboard. The rest of my books are in boxes or just on top on the books already on the shelves haha.
We can never get enough books! Most of my money goes to books rather than clothes like most chicks I guess haha.
@everybody My reading pile is huge too, but looks over at lovelying
I also loved Outlander by diana --my mom gave me the book to read LOL
Has anyone else read the Mephisto Covanant ?? Thoughts
Did anyone watch the In plain sight or other USA shows this week ?? Thoughts
@Camille: I love 10 Things I hate about you...such a good movie!
Whoa, you got a ereader for $20 NICE! Sucks about Borders :/
I love the hard copy books too...love looking it the covers and even all the blurbs haha. Yes, you're right about authors who only publish ebooks. I remember I was browsing on goodreads, and there were so many books that I found that I wanted to read but didn't because it was available for ebooks only. I once tried to read an ebook on my laptop but for some reason I couldn't focus and my eyes started hurting.
@Becky: Will do! Haha, that's good when a book gets your attention and doesn't let you put it down! Can't wait to read The unbecoming of Mara Dyer too.
What a deliciously fantastic contests. Anything with books in it is absolutely brilliant and I am always more then happy to find new authors. So I would love to win the Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack, but any other back would be great too. Many years ago I was able to go to a comic convention in Berlin, so going to the San Diego Comic-Con would be great and I would not want to miss the section with all those gadgets.
Everybody - I have a book suggestion that jumps the tracks a bit. I just finished reading Sisters of the Sari by Brenda L. Baker. It's chick lit (I think) but I really enjoyed it. I won it in a chat. I am always trying to find new things to read so this qualified. I am going to post a review over at Goodreads, if your interested.
Have any of you read anything that jumped the tracks but you ended up loving and recommending?
@Jen B. - I love just about everything, so I recomend all kinds of books. I loved "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett, and "Saving CeeCee Honeycut" by Beth Hoffman and I REALLY like "The Sisters Grimm" series by Michael Buckley and am eagerly awaiting the 9th and final book in the series.
@ My 5 Monkeys
I've read Outlander too! lol! My mom also gave it to me to read.
@ Camille
I'm right there with you on the e-reader. My cousin who works for Borders and they are overloaded with e-readers. I'm just waiting for them to drop in price and Merry Christmas to me! Although I really love the physical books. But now I can buy first edition hardbacks to go on my shelve and then have the digital to read! lol!
I would love to win either the Mysterious Galaxy swag pack or the Hall H one!
If we were at Comic-con together we would totally go stalk all the hot actors especially the True Blood cast.
@Everybody, Yeah, I'm spending a lot of money at the Borders going out of business sale. Seeing all those books on sale makes me wish that I had a lot more money to spend. :)
@ Becky
Right there with you on the Borders thing! lol! I'm trying not to buy too much but it's difficult! All those wonderful books that need homes and to be read!
@becky I used my GC at borders before they are all gone too.
OH! I finally looked it up! I read the Outlander series in the mid- 1990s when it first came out. It was a fantastic read. I'll have to see if I can find it again and reread it, it's been so long.
@Pink Panda, @Julie
I tend to find myself at Borders a lot and since Romance was at 40% off the other day I bought more books. :)
Which Swag Pack do you most want to win and why,
Exhibit Hall swag pack, of course! Why? Who wouldn't want stuff autographed by you? :)
and if you were going to San Diego Comic-Con with me, what one thing would we HAVE to do? We would have to stalk the Castle crew until we got all of their autographs, and tell Nathan Fillion how wonderful he is.
This thread seems to have radically diverged from its original intention. Not sure any amount of smack talk can overcome this....
@Batman, Tsk tsk letting a lack of smack talk get you down, not very becoming of a hero like Batman. :)
A Smack Talk Haiku for You:
The packs are all mine
Batarang out of my way
A dark night indeed
@batman
Heck I like all this smack talk about books and who we would stalk at comic con.
Comic con swag is just as awesome as her books so I feel like I am standing in line and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting to be let into the beg hall to stalk those famous people.
waiting and waiting and waiting waiting waiting
@ducknme only fellow booklovers know where I'm coming from with the tbr room ;P HAHA I'm guessing you don't read erotica? I said this before to Van in a completely different context but, you may be missing out XD
oh a Nook, nice! they don't sell the Nook over here, though we will be getting the Kindle soon. More than happy with my Kobo though :)
lucky that you've got yourself such a fine specimen of man!
@Van heath Ledger made awesome movies. Fact. ;) that's one of my fave flicks of all time- such a great adaptation of The Taming of The Shrew 9the title even rhymes!)
Maybe it's time to open up your reading horizon then and get an ereader in the future :P easier to read than on a laptop or computer because the screens won't hurt your eyes- that's the main reason I got one (ok, I lie, it was the second reason since the unbelievable price was the first haha) I alreayd had a whole heap of ebooks I strained myself to read on my laptop and or my mac but I'd had enough LOL
@Camille: My favorite Heath Ledger movie is a Knight's Tale :) Have you ever seen it?
I'll probably get one MAYBE one day, but if the prices gets better (as in not more or equal to the price of hard copies). Shoot, if I was able to get it for the price you got it for, I'd go out and get one too ;D haha
@Pink Panda you guys still have a Borders? they're all gone in Australia now D: haha yes, I'm sure they'll drop in price! you collect first editions? me too!! it started with Anne Rice for me and recently just got Gabaldon's Outlander series as well- being a perpetually poor college student my collection isn't that impressive at the moment LOL
@Myfivemonkeys (Julie) love Outlander! have you caught up on the series? read the graphic novel yet? Myself I don't read the Lord John books but I will pick up the next one 'Lord John and the Scottish Prisoner' because it's a book that's half John's and half Jamie's- I will read anything with that much Jamie in it!!
@batman Well you never know until you try- come on Dark Knight show us how smack talk is supposed to be done *G*
@Buckeyegirl I think Nathan knows enough just how wonderful he is but then I'm sure he loves basking in adoration rofl
@Jen b "Have any of you read anything that jumped the tracks but you ended up loving and recommending?"
I jump the tracks in my reading all the time though :D so there's nothing really unusual for me to move on to- most people find this hard to believe but I love fiction, as a whole (though romance is something I hold dear- it's arguably a genre within all the other genres in fiction but I digress, this is talk for a whole new thread!) but chick-lit (*shudder* abominable term- why don't they have old-dude-lit which is the majority of literature anyway) isn't my cup of tea and I find that they're rarely very good.
Candace Bushnell and Cecilia Ahern (two very popular chicklit novelists) actually don't write very well IMHO >_> And let's not get into Nicholas Sparks- the douche says he doesn't write romance fiction. RIGHT. You keep telling yourself that Nick.
@Van wow I somehow missed that post of yours! LOL I wasn't ignoring you I swear XD Yes I've seen Knight's Tale, very funny though not a huge fan of the actress who plays his love interest lol fave Ledger film is 10 things, followed by his last full film, Dark Knight.
@Camille yeah, I know! but.. aliens! And hot guys! and cool chicks! And I totally agree - A.H is WAY better then Lords books (although I still like em) actually, my fav series by her were her Atlantis books - ever read them?
I love how this blog has turned into a (almost) review type place. LOVE IT! I have a hole lotta new books to read now! XD I like some chick lit - if it's written well. Some YA chick lit can be good and generally if it's crossed with something (y'know, chicklit/paranormal/romance it's better) On a *slightly* separate note - I cried at Borders closing. It was where I could get all my good American books without waiting for an age for my other bookstores to get them in! But some Dymocks still have them...
oh! and @VanPham: I know how you feel, but I can't bare to put my babies in boxes (except the ones I don't like :) I'm waiting to read/bye the latest Gini book! lol, the latest 3 Gena Showalter books (I love her!) Sarah Maclean's latest book, (eleven scandals to start to win a duke's heart - I can't find it ANYWHERE! HELP! - umm... Matched (YA) by Ally Condie, the latest jane True book (LOVE the series - SOOOO good) um and too many others to count - you guys all know how that feels - am I right?
@Jesse Yeah, I know how you feel I'm always waiting/looking forward to new books even though my to be read pile is ginormous. :)
@camille no I haven't knew that there graphic novel of it. I stopped at book 4 :)
@becky my to read pile is big too
Hey everyone! Comments are s-l-o-w-i-n-g down. So, I have a question for the crew. I check out my favorite author's sites pretty regularly and make notes in my calender about upcoming releases. I pre-order some but not all (gotta keep the lid on the budget). What books are you all waiting for in the next couple of months? I am waiting for:
Dark Taste of Rapture by Gena Showalter
Canyons of Night by Jayne Castle
Never Enough by Lauren Dane
Black Gold by Vivian Arend
and many more (sign it with now...)
@Camille: LOL, It's all good! I don't like the actress that plays his love interest in a Knight's Tale either...pretty but not a good actress. Heath was great as the joker, a little creepy but great haha.
@Jesse: Haha, my room is small so some had to go in the boxes >.<. I read the first book Tempest Rising, and had a hard time getting into it.
@Jen B: I am looking forward to:
The hour of dust & Ash by Kelly Gay
Shadow Kin by M.J. Scott
One Salt Sea by Seanan McGuire
Spider's Revenge by Jennifer Estep
Carrier of the Mark by Leigh Fallon
And many more...wish I can buy EVERYTHING I want but like what you said gotta keep a lid on the budget ;) or I'd go book shopping crazy!
@JenB: I'm not really waiting for anything within the genre, however, I am waiting patiently for the next Rick Castle novel.
@Jen B., I'm eagerly waiting for the 3rd book in The Disillusionists Trilogy by Carolyn Crane (I love that series). Oh, and of course I'm waiting for Alien Proliferaton too. :)
@everyone waving hi and working on my to read pile too
@Everyone: Just finished Kindling the Moon by Jenn Bennett. Amazing, Amazing...if you guys haven't read it yet...you should definitely pick it up!
@ Jen B.
I'm waiting on:
Timeless by Gail Carriger
The last book of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time
Alien Proliferation by her Gininess!
The next book in Mercedes Lackey's Five Hundred Kindgoms fairy tale stories.
And gosh I can't even think of all of them...
Oh, and one that I have been waiting on for years... The final book in the Elvenbane Series by Andre Norton (rest in peace) and Mercedes Lackey. It will never be released but I will always be waiting for it, just in case :)
@everyone
waiting for drink deep
alien proliferation
Insurgent
pandamonium
thats my wish list
@Gini --total fangirl with you and finally watched the show and its was good. Now I need some yougurt. :)

You can eat while you watch/read, but I have given up wasteful sleeping.
@Van Pham - :)
@S.M. - Alien Diplomacy is the one after Alien Proliferation. :)
Three days left. You may already be, on Team 33....
And lest you think this spam, I can make it relevant. http://fb.com/Team33Productions is the company that I created to make Blue Blazes, a 168 Project 2011 Finalist.
Three is my membership # at The Magic Castle.
Rambling incoherently on a contest thread on a Friday night may or may not be cathartic. It does get me an extra entry ;)
So, what movies won't you be seeing this weekend?
@ Camille - I wasn't ignoring you we went away on Wenesday and I havn't been near a computer 'till just now. I have actually read erotica but most of it just embaresses me. Technically, some can be fantastic writing, but after a bit I just feel like a peeping tom and want to skip that bit, which sort of ruins the whole point. I do like romance which seems to not make me feel like a voyer quite so much. And I can't really pick a favorite genre, I pretty much like fiction as a whole.
@Jen B. Aside from Gini's next book, which I have already preordered, the book I am really waiting for is the ninth, and last book in the Sister's Grimm series. It is called "The Hall of Mirrors" By Michael Buckley. And its not coming out until May 2012. I may die waiting!
Thank you Becky! I guess Gini is ahead of the game. Hopefully that means her publishers won't make us wait too long between the two books.
Oh, I forgot to answer which swag-pack & what we'd be doing if I'd made it to the Con:
Still leaning toward the Mysterious Galaxy pack, but Room 20 is intriguing and Hall H sounds like the motherlode of books and goodies!
Since I am *not* a Dazzler, but yearn for an Armani-comfortable hottie--
Dress for STALKING. The less said on *that*, the better.
Pre-con prep would include pulling my tribbles out of stasis and allowing them, ahem, interaction. Toss in a little *secret ingredient* and voila!
Enough poufs for all of us!
Wander around looking like slack-jawed yokels for a bit. Sample the local cuisine.
Let's see...those big TrueBlood guys would probably require some brainwashing or hypnosis, but I think we could just ruffi Nathan Fillion & have our way with him. I mean, *lunch* with him. Maybe use some persuasion on Jim Butcher to find out what's-the-what with Harry Dresden.
Watch all the sneak peeks of EVERYTHING.
Little dancing. Little karaoke ('cause you cannot gather that many costumed or undercover nerds & not have karaoke!). Lots of food, walking, and gawking.
"No sleep 'til Brooklyn!!"
wow it has been quiet- I've just been too busy to get back here XD but here I am!
@Jesse oh yes, totally hot aliens and cool heroines- one thing they have in common ;D I do HAVE her Atlantis books but no I haven't gotten to them lol I'll read anything Showalter pens >_<
But what else are we all here for but our common love for Gini's awesome books and well, books in general ;D love that we're all talking and recommending!
Being the biggest Dymocks in Melbourne I'm quite proud of or romance section-we have a separate paranomal section too (which includes horror and UF). And if we don't have it we can get it! Proud to say because of me Gini's books aren't that hard to come by anymore because we stock it regularly ;)
@my5monkeys(julie) you stopped at book 4? why? :O
@Van LOVE Heath's Joker- totally brought him back on track, the way the joker is meant to be. Creepy, Scary and just a very complex character in general.
(on a sort of related side note I always LOL at Harry Potter "Why so Sirius" spoofs LMAO)
@ducknme oh it's all good! I totally understand, as you can see I've just come back from silence in the past few days :P totally understand, not everyone is into erotica though yes, they can be very well written at times- I do cry at most if not all of Joey W Hill's work lol
let's not even get into my tbr coughroomcough because today, having just come home from a shift at the Romance Writers of Australia conference day 3 I took home a few more books I don't NEED but I simply must have. I buy more books than I can keep up with these days- sign of a book junkie AND a reader IMHO.
Have reviews to write too as a reviewer over at bookthingo.com.au (shameless pimpage but I do love Kat who runs the site! please visit)
@EVERYONE so does anyone else here think that the Egyptians had er-extra terrestrial help with those pyramids and the sphinx?! because really come on, I was watching a documentary about how difficult it would be to build any monument from ancient Egypt with modern tools let alone primitive copper tools lol
those images of ancient Egyptians using said primitive tools are something that the Aliens told them to throw us 'contemporary' peoples off- "haha look, they'll all think you built this magnificence with these pieces of crap" ROFL
@camille-- way too big and just not into the series as much. Also I think had 2nd child.
@Camille: Did the documentary you watch suggest that the Egyptians had extra terrestrial help haha?
@everyone: Do you guys watch PLL, teen wolf or The Nine lives of Chloe King? Fun shows...:)
This is awesome. You are awesome.
@S.M. Any song but "No Sleep...." PLEASE! I hear too much of that on Guitar Hero already TYVM.
@camille absolutely were the pyramids built by "beings not of this earth" cause well dont u think that the human imagination could have come up with something much more that a mere triangular prism like shape?
Just like Misa Buckley said, this is Awesome.
@Camille and Kiwi The pyramids were/will be built by 27th Century time travelers. They were/will be bored and decide to watch as the rest of us primitives belive in the fairytale of anchient Egyptians doing it themselves.
Hiya all! I've been away from my computer for too long! (All of what? 3 days - way to long XD) but there's a reason I haven't been reading (this blog or any books recently) or posting and that reason is that my dog was attacked by a psycho/rabid BIGGER dog and was ripped into. That shocked me. My dog’s no miniature poodle. She’s a very fit bigger dog and can generally hold her own, but she was on the lead, and lost the advantage of agility as well as the fight. Thankfully she escaped with her life. I don’t know what I’d do without her, I love that dog – she’s my baby! But she’s also the strongest creature I know (way stronger than me!) and has always won in fights or been able to survive horrible accidents before, but this is the worst I’ve ever seen her. She’s cut up horribly and shaking all the time, she won’t eat or sit down until she collapses, and so I started to think about strength. In books we’re always reading about strength (mostly in super hot guys ;) or learning how to be braver and survive this wonderful (cruel) world, but sometimes you’re not going to win. You might be brave or strong but there will probably be someone braver or stronger. But that’s part of the reason I love reading. A book will give you a brave/strong person and they mightn’t always win, but they still battle on, and for some reason that reminded me of my dog. (On a separate note: the hot guys and characteristics of people didn’t remind me of my dog – that might be a little creepy! :P) now my dog’s healing (way to slowly for my peace of mind!) and I can get back to my massive pile of books! Any suggestions on what I should add to my pile?
Oh! And @Camille: since Dymocks is (basically) the only chain/ big book stores left in Australia I think they should all be as awesome as yours sounds! Xoxoxo J
@everyone nope haven't watched those shows..this summer. I am a USA Network Fan
Burn Notice, In Plain Sight, Psych, White Collar, Neccessary Roughness, Hank MD--dr in hamptons
@Julie That would be Royal Pains ;)
And an opportunity to get another entry....
Okay, let's talk when's the drawing?
Okay, post nasal drip be damned. I had to pull myself out of bed but I will enter this contest. I really want the The Exhibit Hall Swag Pack -- why because I want the posters of the Alien Series signed by "MOI" --- I wonder who "MOI" is but I figure the covers rock.
@ Jesse, I am so terriably sorry to hear about your dog. I hope she will be okay and I will send good karma and healing thoughts her way since that is all I can do for her. Good luck!
@Everyone
Happy Monday, hope everyone has a great week :)

it was breaking my heart not to be @ SDCC this year. last year was my 1st time & it was just the coolest thing ever. I have no idea how you managed to get all that stuff home with you. I had 2 overweight suitcases on the way home =P
@MarnieColette - I will wish you good luck with the drippy nose, but I am NOT wishing you good luck with the contest - I am not that kind of stupid. The only person I'm wishing good luck there is me and the rest of you all be d@#$%^! Okay I suppose you can all win stuff after I win my Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack, but untill then you can all take a long walk off a short pier. I want BOOKS!
Ok, everyone, we have until Wednesday to keep the conversation going! Any new topics? Anyone, anyone?
