Comic-Con Swag Packs of Bodacious Awesomeness Giveaway!

FOR HOOK ME UP! ONLY -- INTERNATIONAL CONTEST

I went to Comic-Con 2011, got to be on a panel with awesome authors, meet fans, act like a huge fangirl, and generally have a blast…and all you’re getting is…a chance to win a literal cornucopia of goodies! Contest is for Hook Me Up! subscribers only, is international in scope, and will run through Wednesday, August 17, 2011.

And Here Come the Packs…*
…cleverly named for actual Comic-Con events and attendees. ‘Cause we bring the full entertainment experience, baby!

The Hall H Swag Pack
The big cheese. Something from everything, including the most exclusive of exclusives: a Comic-Con keepsake program signed by me and every other author on my Speculative Fiction panel. No one else in the world will have this with these 8 autographs. There will be other signed goodies, including a set of Alien Series posters, all signed by moi (yes, including a poster for “Alien Proliferation”), buttons, posters, T-shirt, sunglasses, cap, line chair, books, and more. And when I say more, I MEAN more. This is the Swag Pack all others want to be when they grow up.

The Room 20 Swag Pack
Close to the Hall H, but featuring a focus on Covert Affairs, Psych and Ringer, along with signed goodies, including a set of Alien Series posters, all signed by moi (yes, including a poster for “Alien Proliferation”), buttons, posters, T-shirt, sunglasses, books, and more. And again, I MEAN more.

The Exhibit Hall Swag Pack
Posters, posters, and more posters, many signed, all cool. If it can curl up and fit into a mailing tube, it’s in here. Includes a set of Alien Series posters, all signed by moi (yes, including a poster for “Alien Proliferation”). You’ll be able to wallpaper at least one room with the contents of this Pack, maybe your whole house.

The Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack
This is the pack particularly loaded with books, sample chapters, other reading matter, as well as a sampling of other awesome Comic-Con stuff, and both an exclusive Jim Butcher/Dresden Files T-shirt and an exclusive Brenda Novak scarf (which I wanted to keep for myself BUT am handing over to this Pack’s winner because I’m a giver, me).

The Allen Gregory Swag Pack
Focused more on the little ones, this Pack features an exclusive Allan Gregory baseball cap, masks, and other coolness focused on the kids, and those of us who will remain kids forever. Includes a set of Alien Series posters, all signed by moi (yes, including a poster for “Alien Proliferation”), buttons, and all manner of other fun stuff.

The Val Kilmer Swag Pack
Val was a surprise attendee at the con this year, and what’s in this Pack will be a surprise, too. Trust me when I say that you’ll get signed stuff, cool stuff, and other stuff. This one goes to the contest entrant whose witty, urbane, and all around awesome smack talk on the Blog either makes me snort Coke through my nose or go “awww” the most often. Yes, this is the only pack chosen by moi instead of the Gods of Random.

By the way, when I say “Pack” I MEAN “PACK” and when I say “stuff” I mean “awesomeness”. Each winner will get an exclusive Comic-Con Swag Bag (some may get more than one) chosen at random by me, along with other Comic-Con firsts and exclusives. All the Bags are cool, most are huge, all were handled by moi and probably used to get swag home, so they’re REAL, baby! All the Bags are Comic-Con exclusives, too, making them bodaciously awesome.

How to Enter to Win:
1. Be a registered Hook Me Up! subscriber. (Not on? Send an email to gini@ginikoch.com with “Hook Me Up!” in the subject line.)
2. Respond as instructed by the secret, Hook Me Up! messages that will go out from August 3rd through August 17th.
3. Cross the digits that you’re one of the winners selected by the Gods of Random!

*Some Packs will include swag from Thriller Fest and RWA Nationals.

Catch-22s, Gotchas, Legalese

Due to sheer weight and volume, international winners may be asked to help cover postage (depends on what you win and where you are). Therefore, if you reside outside the U.S. and you’re not willing to potentially share in postage costs, please don’t enter.

Swag Pack contents subject to change, based on what might not have made it home safely without being trashed. Packs also subject to being increased and/or doubled in availability, ‘cause I’m not kidding when I say I got a LOT of swag.

Contest runs from Wednesday, August 3rd through Wednesday, August 17th. This is an international contest -- as long as you’re on Planet Earth, have a deliverable address (no P.O. Boxes, please), and are a registered Hook Me Up! subscriber, you can enter and win. Winners will be announced in the week of August 22nd. Prizes may take 2-4 weeks to ship; it may take 6-8 weeks for international.

That's it! So, Hook Me Up! entrants, answer these questions three: Which Swag Pack do you most want to win and why, and if you were going to San Diego Comic-Con with me, what one thing would we HAVE to do?

Love,
Gini

1.Room 20 baby!
2. We would totally need to find a pair of very good looking guys in Armani to walk around the con, while we have a huge bag like Kitty and plush alligators. :)

Outstanding! I'm not sure which swag pack I'm hoping for most. I'd love the Alien series things in Hall H, but I am a HUGE Psych fan, so Room 20 would be fantastic. Can't go wrong with more things to read in the Mysterious Galaxy Pack.... *sigh* So many good choices. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks, Gini - this must be a lot of work to coordinate. And thanks to your personal pack mule for carrying it all home!

Wow, this is amazing! Did you have your own sherpa to bring all this home?! All the packs sound incredible and I hope I'm lucky enough to win one, but if not it's still cool to be part of all the fun! Thanks Gini for all the work that went into this :)

Flippin' sweet, Gini!!!! Sounds like you had a great time and probably had to pay extra just to get all that swag home!

I have to ask, did you get to meet Val Kilmer??? He's always been one of the dreamy guys on my list. ;-)

I love this giveaway, why you may ask, well because I won the top prize last time :)

So perhaps everyone should bow down to me now and know that the gods of Random are usually on my side :)

Well anyway here are my answers to the questions:
The swag pack I most want to win is of course the Hall H Swag pack because if it's anything like the last pack it will be filled to the brim with awesome stuff and I could always use more awesomeness in my day. :)

If not that one though I'd love to win The Room 20 Swag Pack or The Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack. These packs would be great because the show Psych is one of my favorites and any pack loaded with books is one that I know I would like to win.

If I was going to Comic-Con with you we would have to dress up of course and monitor/stalk all of the celebrities there. And of course take lots of pictures.

I want to win the Room 20 prize pack because I like you are a USA Fan and would loved to have seen some of my favorite stars. But if i don't win that one I would love the Val Kilmer pack because he is mysterious as the swag bag LOL.

Well If was going to San Diego Comic Con and you were by my side , I would love to swooning over Nathan Fillion and trying to get his signature for his Castle Books and Browncoats Unite.

Here is hoping the random is on my side again.

Hi Gini,
It sounds as if you had a blast!
I'd love to win the Mysterious Galaxy Sway because, well, JIM BUTCHER! Love his books! And the Brenda Novak scarf is very nice. Love her books too.

If I went to Comic Con with you I would watch a few Diners, Dive and Drives and hit a bunch of hole-in-the-wall restaurants around the area...OH, you meant IN Comic Con? OOooh, we could stalk Nathan Fillion and try and get as many pictures with him without him knowing it. :-)

Ahhhh, I'm so jealous of everyone that went, with all the celeb signings/sightings, cool merchandise, panels, and swag going around (especially the free books). :(
I would love to win the The Hall H Swag Pack (the Room 20 Swag Pack is a super close second), since it has a bit of everything from SDCC that I need to experience so badly. And if we were to attend the con together, we'll dress up as bootylicious pirate wenches and plunder booty in the form of hunky celebrities or cosplayers (or just take pictures with them :x).

August 3, 2011 at 7:48 PM
Blogger Jessica E. Subject said...

Oh, I'd love to win them all, but the Hall H one sounds full of awesomeness. :)

Okay, if I would have gone with you, I would have done everything possible to drag Nathan Fillion over to meet you, and me of course. We're both Canadian, so I could appeal to that similarity, or I could just flash him. LOL 'Cause, you know, walking around topless is allowed up here, at least outdoors.

But it seems you saw plenty of hunky celebrities while you were there. :)

Ok I totally call dibs on The Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack...though all of these swag packs are FAB-U-LOUS!

And why, you ask...well, I am just ramping up my own blogspot site, and reviewing books is going to be one of the things I do there.

And I'm thinking the superstar spa treatment would be welcome after a long day at the San Diego Comic-Con. Maybe even a back rub by one of your clones would be in order, they seem so readily available on Twitter these days :)

All I can say is... WOW! You are awesome! Not only can you write such an addicting and wonderful series (I haunt Amazon for your next books!) but you put together such a spectacular giveaway!

I'd have to say if I could pick :) The Hall H swag pack would be my first choice followed by The Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack.

I'm not really familiar w/ Comic Con although if I could afford it, I'd definitely go! So I bow to your expertise at putting together a swag pack that anyone who loves UF/SciFi would love.

If I could have you accompany me on my virgin Comic Con trip, I'd let you enjoy the fun of seeing a newbie with her eyes and mouth wide open in amazement running around until she falls down :) Yeah, it'd be fun to see celebs, but as closet Sci Fi fan, I'd want to see the authors and comic book stars more!

Whoo hoo! I love swag! I'd pick the Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack because I loooove books and the scarf sounds something I could totally rock.
If we were going to Sandiego comic-con the one thing we'd have to do is dress up like sexy Kitty Kats and hunt us some hottie aliens - LOL!

I'm going with the Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack. Dude! (um, Dudette!) *g* A Dresden Files t-shirt!
As for what we'd do together? Why, stalk Nathan Fillion of course! He's my guy-I'm-not-married-to-crush.

I would LOVE to win the Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack because there are BOOKS involved. I LOVE books and things to read and JIM BUTCHER!

And if I went to SDCC with you, err... well we'd HAVE to rate the people walking by, I mean that's a given no matter what. But to be honest I've never been to a comics con, so you'd have to show me all the good stuff.

Okay for reasons I won't go into on a public forum, I'm going with the Ballroom 20 Gift pack. Unless of course, you want to give me the Hall H instead.

If we were to goto Comic Con together, I'd first have to get my wife's permission, and then we'd of course goto my film, and panels. That is of course, if we're talking this last Con. For the next Con, I don't know what we'd do, but it will be fun. Probably the same thing. Attend each other's panels, and films....

thank you for giving away so much awesomeness!!:)
i would absolutely LOVE to win The Hall H Swag Pack or The Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack simply because they seem to have so much of awesome stuff in them!
i'm international so i don't know exactly how the whole comic con thing works but i'm a HUGE fan of Castle and Nathan Fillion so if we could go together we'd definitely have to meet the whole cast!(though i'm not sure i'd be able to form any coherent sentences as i'd be busy drooling over Nathan;)

Oh man, we have to choose? Well, first choice is the Hall H SP, of course. Because I've never been to SDCC, probably won't be, and that'd be the closest to really getting there possible! Bodacious? Right arm! (2nd choice w/have to be the Exhibit Hall SP, just 'cause I love posters. And Alien Series cover art posters? ::swoon::)

If I were going to Comic Con with you? Hm; how do you feel about a temporary and extremely polite kidnapping of Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki? Ok, joke, joke... ::hastily hides ninja mask, ice cream, the tequila and chocolate sauce:: Er. Yes. Barring that, sit around in some comfy spot with food, drink, and your closest umpteen friends at the con, and talk all night!

Hey, that's the best part of a con anyway. *g*

I guess The Hall H Swag Pack
But the next one with Psych, omg, I want that one too.

If we went to comic coon *fan girl squee* Well, I am sure I would drag you along to every fantasy author I could find ;) And if Misha Collin was there then we so would have to have our pics taken with him. Considering The Hobbit is coming then surely Richard Armitage will be there one year so we stalk him too, lol

So, how'd you carry all that home? Was it hard? Did you build an extra pair of muscles that people don't have until they go to the Comic Con? Where there REALLY hot guys there that helped you carry your things? Did you then ask them to carry you home? if they did - are you willing to lend me one? XD

Thanks SO freikin' much for the contest, it's made of awesome, sparkly things and butterflys - sorta like you - and we totally deserve it for being awesome and reading your amazing books! (we benifit in NO POSSIBLE WAY from reading such greatness. And then having comps full of greatness. not at all. We're all givers!

So, just to be special, I didn't answer the questions here (should I though, to increase my chances...?) I answered them via email- plz don't ask, the first email was such a fail.. - so, thanks again, you ROCK! xoxo J/Z

Thanks very very VERY much for the awesome giveaway. I'll have my (and family's) fingers crossed. Toes included, of course.

I would LOOOOOOOVE The Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack *____*
Why? It has the magic word: BOOKS (Seriously, you still have to ask?)

I have never been to the Comic-con - pause while I wipe my tears - but I'll go. Someday. In the future. Hopefully. Anyway, if we went together, we would have to visit loads of panels ('cause I hear those are fun) and pretend not to speak english and trick people. Tricking people is also fun. Maybe we could cosplay. Maaaaybe. I'm not sure I have it in me. But, you know, there's NO WAY someone I know is going to find me there, so... *grin*

Thanx for hording up the swag from the con and sharing with us.

Alright. Answers to your "questions three":
1. Its a HUGE toss-up between Hall H, Val Kilmer, and the mysterious Galaxy Swag packs. 2. All three just make me drool.... and get more than a little giddy. and 3. Hehehe another Comic-Con with Gini, what fun! Okay, befor we go, we make t-shirts that read, "I went to San Diego Comic-Con, hung out with Gini Koch & Jeri Housel, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt!". We then hand them out at Comic-Con to actors of numiness and masterminds of geekery, demand they don them, and then take pictures with them. Of course we will have to throw in the odd request that we get a kiss (on the cheek, we are both of us married after all). Or if they are exceptionally muscly, we need HUGS!!!! Chris Hemsworth... *droooooool*

They all say 'signed' stuff and heck, it's signed. I don't care by who at this point lol

I am saving up like a lunatic for comic-con 2013! because 2012 is too busy a year (last year as a law student bitches yeah) and if we could go together what would we HAVE to do? jump into the nearest ball pit and randomly pop out at different intervals yelling Bazinga! Or in all likelihood, trying not to piss myself because I'm WITH you and AT Comic-Con ROFL

@Becky - Thanks for the chincilla clarification. I must have missed that when I was reading all of the comments.

The comments got me to wondering about costumes. To heck with trying to find men and women in Armani suits. Do you think any of the costume shops rent them? We could be the ones in Armani. I would never buy Armani. The price tags send me into apoplexy but renting would be good.

Of course, I am still stuck on the idea of Jim Butcher. You all can have your Val Kilmer. Hey, does anybody know, was Jim Butcher's wife Shannon at Comic-con? I love her stuff, too.

there are books based on Supernatural? @Julie not that I'd have time to even get to them, are they anything like the ones Chuck wrote on the show? the covers on those were brilliant!

@Camille, Good luck with that :)

The Supernatural books are pretty good (not like the ones Chuck wrote on the show)more just based around the series/filling in some blanks. I think the current one is based on the year when Sam was supposed to be dead/what Dean was doing that year.

I also have most of the Supernatural comics. They're really good and more of a prequel/the early years when their dad was still around.

It has been brought to my attention that I am one of the collective who has been lost in an asteroid field. I know I have sent my messages through my communicator, but there is no record of it here - so somewhere out there in space someone or something is giggling over my many witticisms. So I will shout it out again Hook Me UP! baby. I would love to attend a Comic-Con with you and lurk, I love lurking. I want to see and meet all the fun folks you know and fill my transporter pod with loads of goodies to share with others and give them a taste of my joy. I would of course want The Hall H Swag Pack, because I am greedy like that and want to experience everything there is to experience from such an awesome event. OH! and books, I need books, must have books, they are a requirement for this entity to continue to function, as well as the fuel that continues to keep my ship galaxy hopping,so the Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack sounds incredibly tasty as well. Well my communicator is buzzing and I must be leaving now - we will be in touch again. Thank you so much for sharing the joy.

Oh, was actually in Hall H the first time we decided it would be Hall H, however, it wasn't Hall H then.

Clearly, my obsession with Hall H will stop, if I indeed win the Hall H gift bag.

And, we'd still do all the same things I said we'd do before, as long as it involves you guessed it, Hall H ;)

@Van trust me, with supernatural it wasnt even in tv for 2 yrs!! Not with True Blood it won't air until September- you can't beggar people and then blame them for stealing!!

With books sometimes we get it a month or two later, usually it will be simultaneously released and the bookstore I work at is great because we aim to have it on the release day which isn't the norm over here because of suppliers.

Reading Tobacco Stained Mountain Goat (interesting tile no?) by Andrez Bergen, an Australian expat author whose book launch I've been invited to next week- I'll be reviewing it over at BookThingo.com too so check it out soon if you guys can ;)

Also juggling it with second book in JD Robb's 'in death' series which I'm trying again because I couldn't get into it the first time and I think I just didn't have my heart in it- must know this obsession with Roarke!! After book 1 I get the Roarke fangirls but it's not the best piece of romantic suspense I've read so hoping it will get better.

This doesn't include the textbooks I HAVE to read of course LMAO

Oh and just got my copy of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander 20th anniversary edition (purely for collector purposes) and it's GORGEOUS!! *purr purr*

So what's everyone else juggling? Can you read more than one book at a time? Personally I have no problems doing so but I've heard some that can't

I just recently finished Shadow Hills by anastasia hopcus, a really good YA! Also I'm Currently reading Kindling the Moon by Jenn Bennett, about two chapters in.

I plan to wait for paperback or the Kindle edition to have a price break. I recently received the first book in a series from the UK. I found out after I read it and fell in love with it that the other books in the series might NEVER come to the US! What to do?

@Pink Panda - I read and loved Heartless. I am so sad there is only one more book in the series!

Yes bookdepo does indeed ship here yay! They have wonderful customer service IMHO

ugh don't start with textbooks, law texts are big overpriced boring tomes you'll probably only read once! Second-hand hunting is a must

don't normally read YA unless the author was a romance author first who went backwards and wrote a YA or unless I'm really hooked on storyline or if cover is pretty and not a twilight black/white/red knock-off XD

See with my, as I told a friend, switching reads is likely switching channels in my head- they're completely different even if both the shows happen to be cops shows- hope that made sense! ROFL

@Jen I don't care much about hardback price if I can get it cheaper in other ways (bookdepo, the bookstore I work at etc) and again, not that I judge books by their covers but I do impulse buy on covers haha, if the cover such as with Dan Dos Santos' work for example; like Gini's books the Mercy Thompson books are beautiful- I won't think twice about buying it in hb. Publishers will also release next Alpha/Omega book in hb, Dan Dos Santos is continuing as the artist- already bought in my head lol

What series from the UK is it? plus you can get almost anything on bookdepo.

For example I recently bought Supernaturally by Kiersten White for $9.89 on Amazon, rather than in stores for the retail price of 17.99 ...technically that almost saving 50%! haha

Oh, what book did you recently get from the UK?! You have piqued my curiosity!! haha But yes, that sucks if the following series don't release in the US...perhaps you can get it on Book Depository?

@Camille:

Dang 4 or 5 books at at time..Crazy, You're Super Woman!!

I love the book depository, their books are ALWAYS discounted! Also there were many times when I received a damaged book and they would replace it with no charge. I didn't even have to send back the book.

I will definitely be trying to get my textbook online and USED if possible. Used book at school is a total rip off, I feel as if they're trying to rob us. Tuition just increased over here in the U.S and my parking permit is like freaking $220! Hate buying it, I barely use the textbooks. Bought a $300 textbook before and buy back at school was $20 dollars...sigh.

YA these days are all so similar, with the teenage angst and love triangle. Like you I will only likely pick up a YA if I read the author's adult series, or it has a catchy storyline/cover.

Like Richelle Mead, Jennifer Estep, Rachel Vincent and Kelly Gay...I read all their adult series first loved it and than found out they were writing a YA novel haha.

Okay, the TV reference really makes sense haha..I never looked at it,that way. ;P

yes they are! they day they started following me back on twitter one of my many wishes came true LMAO yeah they refund or replace- it's fantastic. Hopefully Amazon acquisition doesn't change anything.

Buy-backs suck, never done it- better to advertise and sell it to another student directly.

Love triangles *facepalm* unlike Kitty/Martini/Christopher they're all adults, I get it. But I doubt such things actually happen to teens- getting one guy to notice a girl in high school is hard enough let alone fending off 2 genuine advances but this may just be my experience (not that I'd dated any of the losers I went to high school with *shudder* banish the thought!)

Or Sophie Jordan and Lilith Saintcrow and MJ Putney ;D huge fans of their work before they started on YA.

haha yeah that reference helped my friend learn to juggle books ^_^

books in Australia are SUPER expensive it's not funny, we can't even get decently priced ebooks over here. A hardback or trade size paperback here usually costs about $AU29.99 (yes, outrageous)

@Van Pham - I was talking about waiting for Retribution by Sherrilyn Kenyon to come out in paperback. The things is, I read about 3 to 5 books a week. Even with the advance order discounts coming in around 50%, I still wouldn't buy this book. The series is not as good as it once was. I preordered Acheron and still stalked it in store just in case it was a little cheaper.

Of course, I can be a little more picky now that I have over 1,000 books in the TBR pile. That and I have some authors that I think are consistently amazing. Like Jacqueline Cary or Lori Armstrong.

@Camille - I would love to say that I am strong and don't judge a book by it's cover but then my nose would grow and we would have jumped the tracks into fairytale land! I think the covers for the Mercy Thompson books are extraordinary. They really portray the feel of the story. I think the covers for the Gini's novels are amazing. They almost feel alive.

As far as Lydia Dare's books, I really like them. They are light weight and easy to read. What I like most about them is that the characters are smart and witty. The setup is simple and direct. I find I like to read her books after I read something a bit heavier, more emotional or more detailed. Like reading Jacqueline Carey then switch to Lydia Dare.

Haha, yeah the whole two gorgeous guys falling in love with you in H.S. …like you said that rarely happens.
Whoa, books over there are expensive…crazy. Since you said you can’t get decent priced ebooks, does that mean you don’t own an Ereader? I prefer having a book in my hands and flipping through the pages, so I will never even consider an Ereader. Also the difference between in price for a hard copy and e-book is about $ 1 US or sometimes the hard copy would be cheaper than an e-book. @Van ROFL thank you for the acknowledgement of my underdeveloped iPhone skillz- though autocorrect is more often than not out to get my grammar and make turn me into a nonsensical lunatic though admittedly, they can be bloody hilarious!

I've only ever bought once from amazon (it was years ago now) and it took 3 months to get to me! and from your experience with their customer service there's no reason for me to ever buy from them.

which is why I don't get love triangles! I mean, every time I think- to quote the legendary Heath Ledger from cult teen movie classic 10 Things I hate about you--- 'what is with this chick, she got beer flavored nipples?!'

Oh it just means I can't buy ebooks from Australian publishers (it's sad, I mean I won't buy an ebook that's the same price as a paperback book!!!). I do have a wireless lilac Kobo :D I love it- got it for a steal! seriously, who here got an ereader for $20 measly bucks?! (getting one as a present doesn't count :P) It was from the Borders liquidation though (I was a previous employee D:)

I do still love my hard copy books, NOTHING will replace the way it feels in my hand and physically looking at your collection of books but there are fabulous authors out there who only publish e-books- you may be missing out Van ;) I don't buy ebooks that cost me more than $9- (rarely over $6 or $7 really because I can usually find the book on bookdepo for the same price)

no, I don't think ebooks will fully take over hard copy reading- it's not the same, though ebooks will likely be more prolific in the future (if the pubs ever get pricing right).

@Jesse LOL oh wowo Showalter's Alien Huntress books are really not like Gini's at all aside from the sexy extra terrestrials ;) Gini is more UF than paranormal. I do like Showalter's AH series more so than her Lords of the Underworld (I've been told I'm in the minority on this but come on!!)

You're Aussie??? *waves* hi!! me too :)

pfft welcome to the club of 'I buy books I can't necessarily read until I get through my ever growing tbr room' that's right, not pile, ROOM rofl I work at Dymocks, I practice self control everyday XP

@Camille - I totally understand where you are coming from with the tbr pile. My hubby just got me a Nook color for my birthday, (I don't KNOW, but I'm pretty sure it was more than $20) and I found a place on the Barnes and Nobel site that has free books. While a lot of it is erotica (eww) or preview books, or short stories, there are quite a few books too. Free books! WhooHoo! And that dosen't even take into consideration all the real books I have yet to read! Plus I can check out books from the public library on my Nook too, so, lots of free reading.

And yes, my hubby is a doll, I'm pretty sure Gini based her ACs on him, except he can't afford Armani either. He'd look heartstopping in it though.

Ya know, we could probably breeze right through our to read lists if everyone would quit making us do things we didn't want to do. Like earning a living, cooking, laundry. The little unimportant details like that.

Though, now that I think about it, I'd probably just find other books I wanted to read....

I think I first learned about Touched by an Alien on various blog sites, it had amazing reviews. I wasn't into much sci-fi at the time but I'm glad I picked it up.

Every Tuesday (typical book release date) I see all the new books being release..I just add more to my TBR pile *sigh...although I'm trying to cut back on buying so much. TBR pile keeps getting bigger and bigger.

I remember I was browsing on goodreads, and there were so many books that I found that I wanted to read but didn't because it was available for ebooks only. Maybe it's time to open up your reading horizon then and get an ereader in the future :P easier to read than on a laptop or computer because the screens won't hurt your eyes- that's the main reason I got one (ok, I lie, it was the second reason since the unbelievable price was the first haha) I alreayd had a whole heap of ebooks I strained myself to read on my laptop and or my mac but I'd had enough LOL

@Jen b "Have any of you read anything that jumped the tracks but you ended up loving and recommending?"

I jump the tracks in my reading all the time though :D so there's nothing really unusual for me to move on to- most people find this hard to believe but I love fiction, as a whole (though romance is something I hold dear- it's arguably a genre within all the other genres in fiction but I digress, this is talk for a whole new thread!) but chick-lit (*shudder* abominable term- why don't they have old-dude-lit which is the majority of literature anyway) isn't my cup of tea and I find that they're rarely very good.

Candace Bushnell and Cecilia Ahern (two very popular chicklit novelists) actually don't write very well IMHO >_> And let's not get into Nicholas Sparks- the douche says he doesn't write romance fiction. RIGHT. You keep telling yourself that Nick.

Technically, some can be fantastic writing, but after a bit I just feel like a peeping tom and want to skip that bit, which sort of ruins the whole point. I do like romance which seems to not make me feel like a voyer quite so much. And I can't really pick a favorite genre, I pretty much like fiction as a whole.

Thank you Becky! I guess Gini is ahead of the game. Hopefully that means her publishers won't make us wait too long between the two books.

Oh, I forgot to answer which swag-pack & what we'd be doing if I'd made it to the Con:

Still leaning toward the Mysterious Galaxy pack, but Room 20 is intriguing and Hall H sounds like the motherlode of books and goodies!

Since I am *not* a Dazzler, but yearn for an Armani-comfortable hottie--
Dress for STALKING. The less said on *that*, the better.

Pre-con prep would include pulling my tribbles out of stasis and allowing them, ahem, interaction. Toss in a little *secret ingredient* and voila!
Enough poufs for all of us!

Wander around looking like slack-jawed yokels for a bit. Sample the local cuisine.

Let's see...those big TrueBlood guys would probably require some brainwashing or hypnosis, but I think we could just ruffi Nathan Fillion & have our way with him. I mean, *lunch* with him. Maybe use some persuasion on Jim Butcher to find out what's-the-what with Harry Dresden.

Watch all the sneak peeks of EVERYTHING.

Little dancing. Little karaoke ('cause you cannot gather that many costumed or undercover nerds & not have karaoke!). Lots of food, walking, and gawking.

"No sleep 'til Brooklyn!!"

Hiya all! I've been away from my computer for too long! (All of what? 3 days - way to long XD) but there's a reason I haven't been reading (this blog or any books recently) or posting and that reason is that my dog was attacked by a psycho/rabid BIGGER dog and was ripped into. That shocked me. My dog’s no miniature poodle. She’s a very fit bigger dog and can generally hold her own, but she was on the lead, and lost the advantage of agility as well as the fight. Thankfully she escaped with her life. I don’t know what I’d do without her, I love that dog – she’s my baby! But she’s also the strongest creature I know (way stronger than me!) and has always won in fights or been able to survive horrible accidents before, but this is the worst I’ve ever seen her. She’s cut up horribly and shaking all the time, she won’t eat or sit down until she collapses, and so I started to think about strength. In books we’re always reading about strength (mostly in super hot guys ;) or learning how to be braver and survive this wonderful (cruel) world, but sometimes you’re not going to win. You might be brave or strong but there will probably be someone braver or stronger. But that’s part of the reason I love reading. A book will give you a brave/strong person and they mightn’t always win, but they still battle on, and for some reason that reminded me of my dog. (On a separate note: the hot guys and characteristics of people didn’t remind me of my dog – that might be a little creepy! :P) now my dog’s healing (way to slowly for my peace of mind!) and I can get back to my massive pile of books! Any suggestions on what I should add to my pile?
Oh! And @Camille: since Dymocks is (basically) the only chain/ big book stores left in Australia I think they should all be as awesome as yours sounds! Xoxoxo J

Okay, post nasal drip be damned. I had to pull myself out of bed but I will enter this contest. I really want the The Exhibit Hall Swag Pack -- why because I want the posters of the Alien Series signed by "MOI" --- I wonder who "MOI" is but I figure the covers rock.

@ Jesse, I am so terriably sorry to hear about your dog. I hope she will be okay and I will send good karma and healing thoughts her way since that is all I can do for her. Good luck!

it was breaking my heart not to be @ SDCC this year. last year was my 1st time & it was just the coolest thing ever. I have no idea how you managed to get all that stuff home with you. I had 2 overweight suitcases on the way home =P

@MarnieColette - I will wish you good luck with the drippy nose, but I am NOT wishing you good luck with the contest - I am not that kind of stupid. The only person I'm wishing good luck there is me and the rest of you all be d@#$%^! Okay I suppose you can all win stuff after I win my Mysterious Galaxy Swag Pack, but untill then you can all take a long walk off a short pier. I want BOOKS!
