Tidy My Office: Alien Tango
HOOK ME UP! EXCLUSIVE CONTEST
TIDY MY OFFICE!
WEEK TWO: Alien Tango
It's time to tidy my office, and I need filing space. To that end, I'm giving away my edited galleys -- the hard copies that have my scribbles on them. There's only one of each book, so these are extremely rare, one-of-a-kind items.
The contest will run weekly for 7 weeks, and cover the first 6 books in the Alien series and Alexander Outland: Space Pirate by G.J. Koch.
The contest for the Alien Tango edited galley will run from Tuesday, January 22, 2013 through Monday, January 28, 2013. Any contest entries received for AT after 1-28 will not qualify.
So, registered Hook Me Uppers!, answer this question: What's your favorite dance to do or to watch?
Love, Gini

This is for Hook Me Up! subscribers only, so if you're not on, now's the time. Send an email with "Hook Me Up!" in the subject line to gini@ginikoch.com and I'll send you the rules to enter.
Contest will run weekly from Tuesday, January 15, 2013 through Monday, March 4, 2013 (TBAA runs 01-15-13 to 01-21-13; AT runs 01-22-13 to 01-28-13; AitF runs 01-29-13 to 02-04-13; AP runs 02-05-13 to 02-11-13; AD runs 02-12-13 to 02-18-13; AvA runs 02-19-13 to 02-25-13, and AO:SP runs 02-16-13 to 03-04-13). Each galley's contest will run for a week -- winners will be announced sometime in the week following each galley's entry close. Winners will have until the following Sunday to check in -- any galley not claimed by then will be pulled back by the Gods of Random and a new winner(s) will be chosen.
This an international contest -- as long as you're on Planet Earth, you can enter and win. You must have a deliverable address, though - no P.O. boxes. Prize may take 2-4 weeks to ship; it may take 6-8 weeks for international or longer. Prizes will NOT ship until the final contest week close, on the off chance someone manages to win more than one galley (yes, it's possible, because, as we know, the Gods of Random are capricious).

Favorite dance? Capoeira -- a Brazilian martial art / dance. Not only are you dancing, but you are kicking butt at the same time!
Love the waltz.
My own special happy dance:

Favorite dance would have to be that slow dance thing where the guy has no idea what to do other than avoid stepping on feet. (I should take some lessons, but as I haven't by now, I probably won't.)
I go line dancing once a week which I absolutely love. It isn't as popular in the UK as it is in the US though which is a real shame - it would be great to find more younger people to go with (most of the people in my class are retired apart from my friend & I). I'd love to learn some of the latin dances like the samba & rumba but I'd also really like to find a class for the lindy hop or jive - I think they'd would be so much fun to try!
When it comes to watching dancing I can watch anything! Some of my favourite programs to watch on TV are Strictly Come Dancing & Dancing on Ice :o)
So, when I read about the contest the other day, I started thinking. Now, this is dangerous because I never know what will come out when this happens. I got to thinking about Poofs, and how the population increases when there is a "Royal" wedding about to happen. Did they increase when Naomi and Charles "came out", or when Richard let his interest in the nurse be known? These are members of the Royal Family. If so, how many get created each time? If every Poof has 2 babies, I calculated that there would be over 200 Poofs by now. That is just on Earth. No wonder Kitty wants to buy the house next door and make it a kennel. She needs SERIOUS space. That doesn't even get into the birds, either.
I think my favorite dance would have to be the waltz, mostly because I remember my Dad teaching it to me (or trying to, anyway) at a very young age :-)
Without a doubt the Tango. The tango that Arnold and Jamie Lee Curtis did in True Lies gave me goose bumps! As Arnie said "what a team" It is sexy, provocative and also very difficult to do well

OMG!!!! So glad my e-mail is working again on my phone or I would have missed this opportunity for these wonderful extremely rare, one-of-a-kind items! Really, I think I would dance the Roger Rabbit way for one of these!
Hook me up! @ Lynn....lmao!!!!
I don't know what this says about me, but my favorite dance would reall be any dance that makes me laugh...like when BeYonce was dancing and fell off the stage (as long as there are no major injuries involved...you know thats funny!) Or when poor Fergie peed on herself.
Great set of books! And a cool contest. My favorite dance... I have 2. The waltz and country two step.
@ Lynn - it's a poof invasion!! I'd be happy to take a couple off of Kitty's hands though :o) I'm not quite so sure about the birds - birds in general kind of scare me but I guess these ones would be quite handy to have around so I might be willing to make an exception
@ Margaret - the tango is a very sexy dance isn't it! I'd love to find a man who would want to learn to dance like that with me :o)
Sadly I'm a poor dancer so I watch. My favorite would be tap dance ! Espacially when it's Gene Kelly, "Singing in the Rain" is THE best movie of all time for me ^^ . I'm always amazed every time I see it.
I have no talent for dancing but love to watch a waltz or a tango.

The Charleston! Now THERE was a dance!
I love it all! I was in a ballet company for years. I have also performed and trained in many other styles of dance.
I have to say I would love to have the chance to Tango with an Alien. I don't really know how & I would have to trust the alien to lead, but I would give it my best shot. Of course, an alien probably has a different idea of what the Tango is, we could end eating some nasty little bug from his planet or hanging upside down from a tree, or end in the bed doing back flips! Sounds like it would be a lot of fun to find out which it would be.
I would have to say dances like belly dances ang Rom gypsy dancing. For a writing project I had to watch to be able to decribe for a short story. Very beautiful and makes me wish I could do so

I'm going to sound like such a suck up, but if it's done properly (or just well :P) I love watching the tango. Ballet is a very close second favorite of course. ;)
@Lynn: I like the way your brain works and would love an answer!
@Margaret: Oh my goodness yes! Jamie Lee Curtis had the best body in that movie, and even though Arnie's acting skills are dubious, he was nice to watch ;)
@thekrazykat: I think it says that you like to laugh?? :P
@bananas in the void and @Victoria: I too am a terrible dancer. Truly to awful to watch...
@Ratkin: is The Charleston as old as you are?
@Sola: I'm so jealous! I did ballet for a year when I was about seven, but gymnastics was more for me...
@Jesse - Watch the ageist comments there, whippersnapper! Here at The Home, the Charleston contests get all the old biddies excited. And we have LOTS of those contests, too! Every time one of the local orthopedists wants the money to take a nicer-than-usual vacation, he (or she) arranges for a Charleston contest at The Home.
The downside of the Charleston contests is that I have to leave my glasses off for a few days. Here's a tip for you: Flapper dresses and support stockings are an ugly combination!
I personally should not be allowed to dance in front of others because every dance I try looks like a messed up interpretive dance. :)
My favorite dance to watch in a movie is that scene from Beetlejuice where they are all around the dinner table and then everybody starts dancing.
@ratkin, wow the images you bring up are both disturbing yet funny. :)
favorite dance : I love when people dance Tango but I can't ofcourse because I never have a chance to learn to dance Tango :(
@Becky B - You don't even know the meaning of Disturbing until you've seen the old broads in The Home. Here's a hint: some of them curdled milk when they were young! Add wrinkles, Flapper dresses, Depends, and industrial strength support stockings and you'll be grabbing your thesaurus for help describing the horror!
I, on the other hand, still maintain at least a hint of my youthful good looks.
@Ratkin: but you're always ageist! by the way, you didn't answer my question! :O
I like the sound of your Home...I'll keep that in mind...
Also, the visual images you've created are enough to keep me up at night. Way up. I'm glad I didn't have to see it with my eyes!
@Becky: we should make a club! People Who Shouldn't Dance in Polite Society. I'm sure we'd have quite a few members!
@Jesse - When you're old, you're allowed to take shots at the old. Same principle as why I can say nasty stuff about my sister and you can't.
How old is the Charleston? Beats me. It's you youngsters who are supposed to be wizards with the interwebs. On a good day, I can see the keyboard!
Since I've taken belldancing lessons for the last ten years I'll say bellydancing.
@ratkin, yeah I can imagine the Homes I've seen really make me wonder who designed them (especially the one that had white carpet in the rooms.)
@Jesse that would be an awesome name for a club, we could all get together and have really awkward dance parties. :)
Haiku for ALIEN TANGO
Florida not great
Bad guys aplenty to fight
Fast alligators
@Becky B - The worst part of The Home has nothing to do with the decor. The Meds nurse used to be on the defensive line for the Patriots, and the old bat who gives the shots has the magical ability to dull needles just with her sparkling personality.
**Knocking on your monitor screens**
Are any of you youngsters still out there???
@ratkin, yep still here have to work at the library until 4.
@Becky B - I don't know...libraries without those big old card catalogs just aren't the same as in the good old days!
@Ratkin: that sounds fair, except it doesn't explain taking shots at us "youngsters." :P
@Becky: our parties would be the best parties ever.
@Ratkin: still here, unfortunately went away for a few days where I had no internet connection! ;_;
and today's my last day! :O
@Becky: I'm so jealous of your job... all those books... *drools*
@ratkin, yeah we do have less books and the catalog is on computers know (which still confuses a lot of people.)
@jesse yeah I think if any of us that love these ALIEN books got together then some epic partying would ensue. :)
@jesse :) yeah I love my job, I work at an academic library so there's not a ton of fiction books but there's always something interesting to read.
You said that sweet talking was perfectly acceptable. So how about the fact that I mentioned your awesomeness in my author interview and tweeted across the twitterverse. :-)
@Jesse - all is fair in love (yes, I can still remember the concept, sort of) and scrounging for galleys, youngster!
@Becky B - It's not the confusion of the computer catalogue...it's the loss of those beautiful old cabinets, and the smell of the cards. Technology isn't always an improvement.
Now I think I'll wheel myself down to the Automat...
