Anthologies Contest!

HOOK ME UP! EXCLUSIVE CONTEST

It's time for the first contest of Contest Season! (Well, that's what I call this time of year, and who are you to argue?)

My lovely editor for Unidentified Funny Objects 3 sent me some extra physical copies so I'm giving them to some of you! In addition, I also have e-copies of UFO3 AND Two Hundred and Twenty-One Baker Streets to give away as well. I know! It's too happy to be true!

The contest is open to U.S. and international -- Six (6) international winners will get their choice of either UFO3 or 221 Baker Streets in eformat (only, for this one, for international). Two (2) U.S. winners will also get their choice of either UFO3 or 221 Baker Streets in eformat. Four (4) U.S. winners will get a signed and personalized physical copy of UFO3. That's a dozen winners! (And it's me, and there are usually extra prizes lurking around. Just sayin'...)

Contest will run from Wednesday, October 15, 2014 through Friday, October 24, 2014. Winners will be announced in the week of October 27th. Winners will have until Friday, October 31st, to reply -- any prize not claimed by Halloween will be pulled back by the Gods of Random and a new winner(s) will be chosen.

So, Hook Me Up! subscribers who've entered the contest (you know how and it's not via the Blog) answer me one of these questions three:
--Who is your favorite funny SF author of all time?
--Who is your favorite Holmes villain?
--What supporting character from the Alien series, who hasn't already "had their day" do you most want to see a short story about?

Love, Gini

Not on Hook Me Up! and wondering how to get entered to win? Send an email to gini@ginikoch.com with "Hook Me Up!" in the subject line. You'll be in with the in crowd and have the rules sent to you.

Funniest SF author? Aside from Gini?

Humour is such a tricky thing in SF, given that it is so dependent on cultural context. What's funny to a 14-legged ant creatures simply might not play in our own MonkeySpace, and vice versa.

Douglas Adams is the master, of course.

Many points to John M Ford for "How Much For Just The Planet?"

If we can broaden this to graphical formats, then Phil Foglio's "Buck Godot" is pretty damned funny, but then my mind wanders and I think of his adaptations of Robert Aspirin's "Myth" books, which are also pretty damned funny on both counts, but they're sword-and-sorcery ...

... wow, can you smell that candle?

Time to make a sandwich.

Not counting you Gini since that would be blatantly sucking up, Still love ya. Douglas Adams is one of my original loves along with Piers Anthony yes he did and does SF. Watch out for the puns.... I just discovered T.R. Harris and his Human Chronicles Saga well written and a different spin to meeting aliens and our differences Human's are the scary people lol.Besides your Alien series I constantly re-read John Ringo with Travis S. Taylor the into the looking glass series. A great story with humor spread out across the tale along with drama and action.

"Who is your favorite funny SF author of all time?"

Well, Gini Koch, of course.
When I was a kid I also liked Terry Pratchett, L.Ron Hubbard, and Robert Asprin for laughs, but A. Lee Martinez & Christopher Moore are a hoot and a half every single time, these days.

Hmmm.
I guess Moriarty, because he's snarky, a match for Sherlock, and he just never quits.

Gini, you have so many great supporting characters that I would frankly like to see stories or even books maybe, on each of them!

Okay, okay it's trick-or-treat time and we are offered treats and given loaded questions LOL If you say to me funny and SF and authors - ummm let me think a moment here, I seem to remember something like a pink cowboy hat that always makes me smile and leaves me lusting for one in my wardrobe in purple - who could this be - ummm why Gini Koch, yeah I think that was her name, cause seriously she rocks the funny-bone warmers right off my elbows. Thank you for the awesome Hook-Me-Up fun. I am so looking forward to reading Two Hundred And Twenty-One Baker Streets. It sounds unique and fun and right up my fun zone. So Trick-or-Treat and beam me up to the funny syfy zone ;)

Off to the kitchen to make a sandwich for peachsprojects . . . just sayin :D

I'd like some stories about what Buchanan gets up to when he's not with Kitty, and how much of a kick does he get out of appearing and disappearing?

Tell me the tales of Kitty's mom & dad in their younger days' adventures!

Heck, I'd like to have a few "A Day In The Life of..." type stories of each of them.

I'd like a story of Hacker Central before they joined up with the ACs, while they were helping Chuckie, or even earlier.

Or, "A Day In The Life of..." them as a group, and/or each of them individually.

What has the retired Pontif been doing with all of his free time, while keeping his fingers in the pie (??) and playing with his grandkids and whatnot?

I think Jim Butcher and Kevin Hearne also do a great job infusing a sort of subtle dark humor into their storytelling, even when nothing funny is happening.

Oh, oh, oh!
Um (AGAIN, with the name-lacking! Ugh!)

The guy who lives in the water treatment plant at the base!
The one in charge of "The Elves".

What did he do that brought him here?
What does he do when he's not cleaning clothes and nudging humans & ACs and stuff?

What does he do when he takes a day off?

Oh, man, I want to hear *his* stories!

Stories I want to hear...really got my brain rushing around...

OH!
A week watching Kitty & Company's doings
FROM ACE'S POINT OF VIEW!

Oh, I'd totally buy that.

Does he talk to all his myriad selves? Or are they all completely subsumed as one new entity, so he would only be talking to himself, if he actually talked to himself. Does he? Talk to himself?

What do Ace & Kitty's daughter talk about when there's no need to keep her from rushing off to save her parents--or when there is?

Let's see,
--Who is your favorite funny SF author of all time?
After you dear Gini, would have to be Terry Pratchet. Love his Disc World series.
--Who is your favorite Holmes villain?
Moriarty of course.
--What supporting character from the Alien series, who hasn't already "had their day" do you most want to see a short story about?
Pierre! The multitalented go to guy deserves the spotlight! I would love to hear how he deals with the daily Kitty Kalamities!

Call it sucking up but other sf authors can't get me to reread their books so many times that if I wasn't using a kindle most of the time I'd have had to buy 3-4 copies of all the books already.

For the second question I have to say fail on my end. I have yet to explore the world of Holmes except in movies and the show but will have a new mission I must conquer!

Lastly I vote Olga in all her ninja goodness! Or Adriana and the boys Len and Kyle with their love triangle and spy skills!

My favorite SF author of all time? I don't know about of ALL TIME, since I'm still reading, but I LOVE Michelle Patricia Browne's writing. She creates some seriously mess up worlds. I love her work.

Favorite SF author? Gini of course. Seriously I wasn't really into reading SF until her books. It really opened me up to a whole new 'world' to read. And how about a short story from the point of view of one of the other supporting characters? With Gini's style it would be funny to see what they think of Kitty's hijinks.

Favorite Holmes villain... Irene Adler in Shelock (bbc)threw him for a loop and in love.
Would love a compilation book of days in the lives of non emergency days of all your supporting cast. Daycare at the embassy, Joel Oliver out on a story, Angela at the White House, Richard on a date, Pierre shopping in dc, ACE watching everyone, the Main one and Only support elf..lol and what the proofs and peregrines do together.

Oh geez...you love putting people on the spot. I haven't read all the shorts you've put out so far, so some of these may be a repeat.

I'd love to see what Kitty did before the Alien series started. I'd love to see where Olga got all her training. I'd love to see the day in the life of a Peregrine or a Poof. I would love to know more about ACE and Algar and any of those other superbeings/consciousness things you have going in the series.

And last but not least, I'd love to get into the minds of the villains for just a moment. Not so much to see what they think but to understand their reasoning for being asses. What happened to make them turn from the light?

Hope that was enough for you! LOL!

I would have to say I'd like to see a story developed abut ACE, how he came to be and how he forms his attachments...he's so lovable and honorable.

Gollies...asking me to choose my favorite Science Fiction author is like asking me which of my children I like best...it depends on my mood as I'm reading: Christopher Moore, Ray Bradbury, the "Flip and Phlynx" series, Asimov...oy....oh, I forgot: Victoria Laurie's "Sam" series: "Now you see them"....for what it's worth...gotta run, my granddoggy is coming for a visit while her stepbrother is recovering from his, dare I say, "neutering"? and no, no "neuticals"!

1 My favorite FUNNY sf author would have to Gini Koch. Most of the people here apparently missed the word FUNNY in the post and just put their favorite Sf author. If I was picking a favorite sf author it would be a mix of Harry Turtledove, Ann McCathy, Jim Butcher, and last but not least Gini Koch.

3....... hmmmm thats a tough one. What about a short story about the puffs...... I think that could be interesting to see how they were created and some of the cases of them saving the royal AC's before coming to the current group.

At the risk of making you preen like a peregrine, Gini, my favorite sci fi author is Gini Koch (Duh). I do have to give a couple of others their props, though. Spider Robinson helped develop my love of word play and puns and Anne McCaffrey helped shape my views of the world and my place in it as a woman.

Following that feminist trail, my favorite Holmes adversary is Irene Adler. Smart and savvy, she is a great match for Holmes and reminds me a bit of an evil twin for Kitty.

I connect with all of the "Alien" characters and would love to spend more time with any of them.
