Gini, Coming to a Book Festival near...Victorville

Hail and well met members of the Collective! You have some great opportunities to see the Gini, speak with the Gini, and buy new works by the Gini coming your way.

See, I know what's important...it's the Giniverse and our sassy author friend in a signature pink cowgirl hat.

Quickly Approaching Opportunities To See Gini in 3D:

Join Gini at the Barnes and Noble in Victorville Mall on Friday, September 30th, 3 pm to 7 pm. She'll be speaking and signing copies of the latest release from the Alien series: Camp Alien - as well as all of her other book-shaped offerings.

If you can't make it to the mall - or you just feel the need to capitalize on all chances of a Gini sightings - you should stick around and head out to the inaugural High Desert Book Fair on Saturday, October 1, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm also in Victorville.

Gini will be a Main Tent Speaker with Q&A at 1:30 pm, followed by a Main Tent book signing. Have no fear, Gini will be around all day signing and giving out hugs in grand Gini-style.

And don't forget that Gini's ONLY East Coast appearances this year will be in Richmond, VA, at the James River Writers Conference, October 14-16, and at Fountain Bookstore, October 16. If you're even close to nearish to the area, don't miss out on your only chance to see our girl up close and in person!

New Releases featuring stories by Gini:

Zombie Needs Brains produced anthologies Alien Artifacts and Were- released in trade paperback and ebook on September 15th

If you missed out on supporting this Kickstarter, here's your chance to nab these books. Alien Artifacts stories are about humanity discovering what aliens have left behind, and  Were- is about were-creatures other than werewolves.

If you've devoured these stories already please do our author a solid post a review on goodreads, Amazon, or Barnes and Noble.

Gini's story in Artifacts is an Alien series short, "Alien Epilogue", that goes into what happened to the folks in Bizarro World after "the switch." Gini's story in Were- is her very first YA, "Missy the Were-Pomeranian vs. the Masters of Mediocre Doom". You know you want them, so get them, now!

Spread the word; book-pushing is a kindness...really, friends don't let friends miss great stories.

10 days left to support Robots, Water and Death Anthologies!

The latest Zombies Need Brains Kickstarter to fund 3 new science fiction fantasy anthologies: Submerged (stories set underwater), All Hail Our Robot Conquerors! (stories with robots harkening back to the 50's/60's), and The Death of All Things (stories with Death as a character) is $4197 away from its initial production goal.

Don't miss out on the opportunity for a new J.C. Koch horror story in Submerged and a new short story set in the universe of the Alien series in All Hail Our Robot Conquerors!  AND, don't miss out on a chance to be a character in one of Gini's stories -- there are still tuckerizations left for her story for Submerged, so check it out and get your name in lights. So to speak.

Also don't forget to check out the different rewards for backing this project. There are zombie goats as a prize available people; ZOMBIE GOAT PLUSHIES.

Gini's excited to write new stories for two of the anthologies and let's not forget it's another opportunity for you to have yourself written into the Giniverse. So stop on by check out the campaign and become a backer!

A new place to nab a piece of Alien series inspired artwork:

If you're anything like me - god help you if so I'm a wee bit nutty - then you've tried to picture what characters from stories look like while you're reading. One of my favorite things to do is surf the interwebs for fan art.

Ever wondered what the Peregrine species from the Alien series might look like?  Well, talented artist and the Head of Team Gini Lisa Lingenfelter Dovichi has made her imaginings of Bruno the Peregrine available for purchase in her new Esty store PrintsCharmingbyLisa. Check out Bruno and her other artwork - it's: "Where Watercolors and Zentangles Collide."

Last but not least, remember that now's the time to be sure that you pre-order Alien Nation from your favorite bookstore or online retailer. More and more, pre-orders matter to publishers and, therefore, to authors and, by extension, readers. We want the Alien series to go on forever and ever, right? Then pre-orders are a must! So, do our girl a solid and get those pre-orders in pronto!

Now, if anyone knows who's got the 2016 remote, let me know because I really should be the operator.

Hey there! Don't faint, I'm still alive.

I know, it's been ages. I've been busy (read: been horrifically late on yet another book but it's finally turned in). Hoping the first half of 2016 has been good to all of you (and, let me just say right now that I cannot BELIEVE that I have not done one of these all year, but, um, it's been an intense year so far). I have tons going on. I have no time to tell you about it yet. Hope to see some of the Alien Collective there. If you want to stay abreast of what's going on while I'm at the con, Facebook and Twitter will be your best bets.

Hope all of you have a fantastic time while I'm gone. Hope I'll get that contest I've been promising actually going.  Hope I'm not going another 6+ months without catching all y'all up on the madness that is Life With Gini. :-D So, until the next time (cross the digits that it's in about 2 weeks), let's be readers out there. Peace out, my li'l gangstas, and I'll catch you on the flip side!

Last One for the Road

Hope everyone had a great weekend and a good Monday (or, well, you know, as good a Monday as it's possible to have). Mine was spent being very busy because, as you know, I'm heading to San Diego Comic-Con in a matter of hours. But before we go to radio silence (other than the occasional Twitter update), I wanted to get you all caught up on the latest going's ons.

First up, check out what Larissa's Bookish Life and Calliope's Domaine say are the top 5 book covers so far of 2012. And see who Bibliognome picked as the top 5 favorite fictional families.

Now for some reviews. See what Geek Dad at Wired.com thought of Alexander Outland: Space Pirate by G.J. Koch (yes, moi), check out what Calliope's Domain thought of Alien Diplomacy, and then see the first review for The Night Beat up at Amazon.com.

The next stop after Comic-Con on my Split Personality Summer Signing Tour will be August 5, 2012, from 2:00-4:00 at The Poisoned Pen in Scottsdale, AZ. I'll be signing Alien Diplomacy, Alexander Outland: Space Pirate, and The Night Beat, so be there or miss out on the signing frenzy (and yes, chocolate will also be making an appearance).

Can't make it to the Greater Phoenix Metro Area next month? No worries, The Poisoned Pen has you covered. I'm totally excited to announce that The Pen's just added moi to their exclusive Autographed Editions Program where you can not only buy the books (and yes, they ship internationally) and get them signed, but you can also get them personalized, just like you were here, or there, or...well, I think you know where I'm going with this. BTW, check out the other authors on the program, because I'm sure you'll recognize their names and books.

And, to complete The Poisoned Pen Trifecta, Alexander Outland: Space Pirate was chosen as a Staff Pick by the discerning and wonderful Pat King! But that's not all! To add to the coolness and discerningness of charming guys named Patrick, Alexander Outland: Space Pirate was also chosen as a Staff Pick by Patrick Heffernan at Mysterious Galaxy Books! So, clearly, if your name is Pat, you're gonna love this book, but I think those with other names will enjoy it, too.

Contest Reminders:
The Hook Me Up! exclusive contest for The Night Beat is still going strong. If you haven't entered yet, fix that situation right away! Not on? Don't delay, the contest ends July 20th. Send an email to gini@ginikoch.com with "Hook Me Up!" in the subject line, you'll be subscribed and the contest entry rules will be sent to you, easy peasy.

Also, awesome author Marsheila Rockwell and I are doing a dual book giveaway. You can win a copy of The Night Beat AND a copy of Skein of Shadows. First chance to win a set is at They're Biodegradeable. Get entered now, contest ends July 23rd.

Well, all that should keep all y'all busy until I get back. So, have a great rest of this week, weekend, and start of next week, and I'll catch you way on the flip side. Peace out, my li'l gangstas, and let's remember to be readers out there!

Love,
Gini

Friday Fun

Happy Friday, one and all! As my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, we've got a short and sweet, but fun, one for y'all today, so let's get to it!

First off, head over to The Amber Scott Project to discover 10 things you didn't know about moi. Trust me, these are things you really DON'T know about me. And this is your only shot to find out. After this, it's back to the mystery that is moi. *snort*

After learning all there is to know about yours truly, hit Escape Between the Pages to see what she's waiting on, then head to Lovin' and Livin' Life Reviews to see who won what and why.

Reminder: I'll be at Borders Waterfront tonight from 5-7pm signing "Touched by an Alien". (I may also be signing "Alien Tango". Hey, anything's possible, right?) I'm not alone there, seeing as there's 8 of us signing, and we're all bringing goodies and raffle prizes, so if you're in the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan Area, you might want to stop by.

Then on Saturday, as in tomorrow, I'll be at the Desert Rose Fifth Annual Fall Writer's Workshop. It's free, I'm doing a panel with the awesome Erin Quinn and we're also in the Q&A session at the end. It's at the Scottsdale Public Library and runs from 9am-4:30pm.

So, see some of you tonight and tomorrow, love all of you as you well know, enjoy your weekend and keep on reading!

Love,
Gini

Sliding Slowly Towards the Weekend

It's Hump Day! Or it was when I started writing this. At the rate I'm going, we're gonna be well on the downward slide before you get to read it. So, since my theme this week appears to be getting info out really late, let's get right to all the news that's fit to print!

First up, as my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, we have a new lovely review of "Touched by an Alien" from A Buckeye Girl Reads. Check it out, share some Alien Collective love.

Next up, the Accolades page has been updated. If you've done a review, and you don't see it listed here, please let me know and we'll get that rectified immediately, if not sooner!

Last reminder for this -- my author workshop & book signing is tonight:

Writers Workshop Wednesdays
Borders Scottsdale Waterfront
7:00 p.m., July 14
7135 East Camelback Road
Scottsdale, AZ 85251
(Note for AZ folks -- this is at the Waterfront Borders in Scottsdale, NOT the Biltmore Borders in Phoenix)

I'd send you to BookTour.com for all the deets, but the site's been going through a facelift and it's a little wonky right now. If you do use it to keep track of me, never fear, it'll be smoothed out by next week. (I have it on good authority from the nice man over there in tech support who kept me from jumping off the roof when it looked like all, and I do mean ALL, my data had been wiped out.) This is also, therefore, making my Datebook page a little wonky, but again, it'll smooth out soon.

Last, but not least, we've already had requests for additional swag at the Alien Collective Depot. So, we're getting to those and will have something up by the time I'm back from Comic-Con, if not sooner! (Oh, btw...did I mention that I'm going to Comic-Con as a professional?)

BTW, if you're not on Hook Me Up!, get on before I get back from Comic-Con. I'll be doing another Hook Me Up! exclusive contest, and it'll have some great stuff in it, including whatever coolness I come home with from Comic-Con...and there's a lot of cool gonna be there! So, send an email to gini@ginikoch.com with "Hook Me Up!" in the subject line, so you're all set for the winning to come!

Love,
Gini

Maniacal Monday

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I did a lot of editing on "Alien in the Family" and a whole lot of needless stressing about getting ready to head to SoCal and Comic-Con.

But that's all in the past! Yes! It IS! I SWEAR! Ahahahahahahaha! *cough*

So, what do we have for you today? Well, as my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, we have a lot! First up, there's a question I've been getting somewhat frequently and one of our newest Hook Me Up! subscribers just asked it again. So, hit the Extra Me! page and check out Ask Gini for an answer about Kitty and how she does what she does so well.

Next up, in case you've somehow missed it, I have another Twitter contest going, my 300 Followers contest. For full details, hit Dark Wyrm Reads where the contest is more clearly stated than I've managed to do yet. Check out the reviews of other books while you're there, too! (BTW, while I'm gone, Twitter may be the best place to hear from me, keep in touch with me, etc. Because that Blackberry of mine will be with me at all times, and my netbook will not.)

In other news, ALPHA Reader has a nice shout out to "Touched by an Alien" as well as a lot of other books you might want to check out and put on your summer reading list. And my 3-part guest blog about the 3 P's to Writing Success is up at That's QUEEN Bitch to You so check it, and the reviews (and the Robot Chicken!), out there.

As I think I've mentioned (oh, once or twice), I'll be gone the latter half of this month at Comic-Con (where I'm going as a professional! Yeah, I know, you thought I was over that, based on the opening paragraph, but you were wrong, it's still a required addendum). If you've also somehow missed what my session there will be about and who I'll be on the panel with, check out Super Freaks are Super Freaky for a quick overview. And if you'll be at Comic-Con, let me know!

Last but not least, a reminder for those in the general vicinity of Phoenix/Scottsdale -- I'll be doing an author workshop and book signing this Wednesday, July 14th (you know, instead of packing...'cause I like to make the stress really WORK for me). Would love to see you there!

Writers Workshop Wednesdays
Borders Scottsdale Waterfront
7:00 p.m., July 14
7135 East Camelback Road
Scottsdale, AZ 85251

Stay tuned. Tomorrow the stuff I've been telling you about that we've all be waiting for will be announced...well, that you've all been waiting for me to actually coherently tell you about and I've been waiting to get all ready before I coherently tell you about it. That stuff. It'll be here. Tomorrow. Promise.

Love,
Gini

Jumpin' July!

Well, as my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, it's a busy week. Which, of course, you know, too, 'cause I've blogged every day. (Making you nostalgic for last week? LOL)

Getting right down to business, there's a great new review of "Touched by an Alien" up at Lala's Book Corner. Head over, have a read, leave some Alien Collective love.

Parts 1 & 2 of my 3-part guest blog are still large and in charge over at That's QUEEN Bitch to You. If you haven't checked them out, why not rectify that right now? Part 3 is coming on Friday, so stay tuned!

Reminder for those who are in or around the Greater Phoenix Metro Area (aka Welcome to Hell's Orientation Party!), I'll be doing a workshop and book signing at the Border's Scottsdale Waterfront on Wed., July 14th. Details here, The Arizona SF/F Blog and here, BookTour.com. Please come by if you can, would love to see you there!

In other news, "Touched by an Alien" is a Locus runner up bestseller! And my Twitter contest is still going strong -- if you're not following me yet, head over and start (http://twitter.com/GiniKoch), 'cause when I hit 300 followers, I'm giving away 2 signed copies of "Touched by an Alien". There's more "stuff" coming, and I think you're going to like it, but it's not quite ready for prime time...hopefully before I go to Comic-Con...so keep your eyes on the website!

And finally, it's time to start the drumbeat -- please pre-order "Alien Tango" (releasing Dec. 7th, as if you didn't know) and encourage all you run across to pre-order, too! (Yes, for those of you who were with me before "Touched by an Alien" released, you ARE going to hear this a lot...but what can a girl do? Pre-orders matter. So, you know, pre-order today so you can be all proud of your bad selves and lord it over the slower folks.)

Not on Hook Me Up! yet? Believe me, you want to change that status, and soon. When I'm back from Comic-Con, there will be another Hook Me Up! exclusive contest coming...and when I get ARCs for "Alien Tango", guess who's going to have a shot at them? Right you are, my Hook Me Up! subscribers ONLY. So, send an email to gini@ginikoch.com with "Hook Me Up!" in the subject line TODAY, so you're all set and don't miss out on anything!

Love,
Gini

Monday Update

Happy Monday!

The winner of Amber Scott's "Play Fling" is identified in the blog post below. Congrats to our lucky (chick wins ALL the time, everywhere!) winner! And, despair not if you didn't win. More winning will be coming in the near future!

Reminder for those in the area: I have a book signing tonight at my chiropractor's office (no, I really wasn't kidding about that). Lots of food and drink will be served, the office is lovely and has plenty of parking, so come on over, would love to see you! (I'll be the one in the Aerosmith t-shirt.)

Sightings around the web: The Galaxy Express has a fun listing of all SFR with the word "Alien" in the title, so check it out, there's some cool stuff there; nice thread start at Hurog; Babbling About Books has some lovely things to say regarding her mid-year review; and Amber Scott's not only suggesting everyone pre-order "Alien Tango" (yes, please!) but she's also looking for another debut author to start the next round of Project Pay It Forward, so head over and give her your suggestions.

Of course, my Hook Me Up! subscribers knew this first. Why not join them and be in the Gini Know sooner? You get access to cool HMU! only contests, info, and much more! Send an email to gini@ginikoch.com with "Hook Me Up!" in the subject line, and get in with the in crowd today!

Guess What?

As my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, more reviews for "Touched by an Alien" are in! Take a look at what "That's QUEEN Bitch To You" and Jacqueline Lichtenberg from "Alien Romances" have to say. The last one is a longer post, but well worth reading (or you can just skim on down to the TBAA cover and go from there).

And, watch this space, and "Pearls Cast Before a McPig", because there will be an interview up there on Monday. (Three guesses who with, and the first two don't count.)

So, head over and give all these places some Alien Collective love!

I'll be at the Desert Dreams conference this weekend, and for those of you in the Greater Phoenix Metro Area (Summer in April!) I'll be a part of the mass book signing at the Chaparral Suites in Scottsdale, AZ on Saturday, April 17th, from 5:45-7:00p.m. Hope to see you there!

Love,
Gini

So Many Things, So Little Time

As my Hook Me Up! subscribers already know, there's a lot going on in Gini Land.

My 'debut' as part of SF Signal's Mind Meld column is live today! Check it out to see how I and a lot of other well-known authors answer the question of what are The Best Aliens in Science Fiction. (http://www.sfsignal.com/archives/2010/03/mind-meld-the-best-aliens-in-science-fiction/)

I'd like to mention that I was totally restrained and didn't bring up my own, personal aliens once. I know! What professionalism! Be awed, be impressed, but be speedy and go read the answers!

Next up, "Touched by an Alien" is out early in some places. So, if you pre-ordered (particularly from Barnes & Noble), it seems like you'll be getting your books this week. If you didn't, check your local bookstores and see if you can score a copy early. Please let me know if and where you find it prior to the official release date.

Since the book is out there, I've been getting some lovely reader reviews, for which I'm beyond stoked and, naturally, cannot wait to share with all of you. Links will take you to a variety of reviews, most recent are listed first.

Have a review of "Touched by an Alien"? Let me know so I can share it on the Blah, Blah, Blah blog!

And then there's everything else. Don't forget to get your entries in for my first contest. Go to my Win Stuff page for all the details. The prize is cool already, and you'll for sure want to have a shot at the 'extra' I'm tossing in. The contest's official close date is this Thursday, April 1st, so hurry up! (BTW, HMU! subscribers get until Sunday, April 4th to enter, so if you're not in with the cool kids yet, send an email to gini@ginikoch.com with "Hook Me Up!" in the subject line and you'll be in with some extra contest time!)

For those of you in or around the Phoenix area, I'll be signing "Touched by an Alien" at the Chaparral Suites in Scottsdale, AZ on Saturday, April 17th. Let me know if you're planning to come!

Watch the Blah, Blah, Blah blog for updates on where I'm guest blogging or being interviewed. There's a lot that'll be going on this week and next, particularly on the 6th, so you're all forewarned about the barrage of Gini-ness heading your way!

Editing: The New Neverending Story

First, let me say that I'm not one of those authors who doesn't like editing. I find it an enjoyable part of the process.

Which is good, 'cause it's all I've been doing for the past several weeks. And it's all I'm going to be doing for the foreseeable future. Put it this way? Doing this blog is an exciting opportunity for me to do something OTHER than edit.

Oh, it's all good, mind you. Just mailed off my page edits for "Touched by an Alien". (Have I mentioned you can pre-order it right now from Borders.com and Amazon.com? I have? Have you so ordered? If not, let me remind you to do so again...) And I'm revving up the edits for "Alien Tango" (coming from DAW Books in December, 2010). And I have a variety of other editing-related things going on that have nothing to do with my Alien series. All in all, I'm an editing fool right about now.

The entire process has been fascinating, especially as a first-time novelist. For short stories, it's been faster, shorter, and by far easier. For novels? Not as much. At least my agent says that my reaction to my page proofs was a standard author's reaction (and we shall speak of this no more...they're in the mail and I can forget all about them now).

Of course, the risk is that, after the seven-hundredth read through, you're going to be a little sick of your beloved novel. I'm right on the cusp of that. Thankfully, I just go and stare at my cover art and it relaxes me because the cover's so awesome it reminds me of how much I love my book. Even if I'm sick of going over it with a fine-toothed comb. For what seems like the millionth time.

I'm sick of it mostly because I just know a typo's going to make it to press. And I know someone's going to point it out, most likely during whatever ends up being my largest book signing event.

The question won't be "if". The questions will be "when" and "will Gini burst into tears or throw something?"

I'm betting on both.

Love,
Gini
